Well, I'm in Columbus, OH now, but up until a few months ago I had lived in CT and NY for about 8 years or so.

Aren't they always?

I had to suffer through that song as a kid...so should they. Do monkeys and weasels naturally coexist in any ecosystem? I could be wrong, but I would have guessed they were indigenous to different geographic reasons.

Not yet.

I instinctively crank it up really freaking loud when "You Are My Face" kicks into gear. My "official copy" has not arrived yet, so I can't attest to sound quality...

SBS Preorders: Put your MusicToday bitching here!
quarter23cd replied to lost highway's topic in Just A Fan
I'm basically just in it for the t-shirt. Not having the cd yet would probably bother me more if I hadn't already had the leaked version for months now. -
This is the best thread we've had in years. Thank god, I was about to start a petition to shut this place down because we are all, obviously, way past our creative peak.

So...has anyone who didn't choose express shipping gotten anything yet? -
As long as we're having this argument, can I turn back the clock a few years and rant about how wussy I thought Summerteeth was when it came out? I wasn't a member of the board back then and totally missed out on that. I think every Wilco record so far has been somebody's undeniable proof that the universe is going to hell in a handbasket.

I may have spoke too soon. Listening again on headphones at work and am digging it considerably more this time around.

That's valid--and plenty of people feel the same way--but plenty of people like it, too, so maybe its less of a case of a band losing its inspiration as its just a case of the band not playing a style you particularly like. Since we're talking about Wilco, you're in luck--wait another album or two and it will probably sound way different. Besides, wouldn't re-hiring old members in an effort to recapture a former sound be a regression? Oh, nevermind...

Maybe he can catch up with the guys at the Ft. Wayne show.

Independent stores - at what price?
quarter23cd replied to bobfrombob's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I don't think I've set foot inside an actual indie/mom-and-pop record store since college--mainly due to not having many around. Where I used to live, the only brick-and-mortar store around with a decent selection was Borders. And where I live now, the only indie stores I'm aware of are in an area of town I rarely get to. So I guess I tend to end up at a big box (although more frequently just order online), but its more about convenience than price. -
Yeah, its no biggie. After I wrote that I realized it probably came out sounding unnecessarily harsh. For whatever reason I think this is a band I was really expecting to like, and after hearing people rave about them, and this album in particular, it surprised me that I was kind of like "Really? This is it?" Oh well. In respect to the "smash and bash", I think maybe I was expecting something a bit more raucous and the album struck me as a bit more restrained and poppy than I was expecting. Not necessarily bad, but less up my alley. A live show might be a better representation of wha

Resurrecting an old thread here. I downloaded the new Two Cow Garage album last night from emusic since people here have raved about them, and since I recently moved back to Columbus and I wanted to check out the new "hometown band". For all those reasons I really wanted to like them--but my first impression is pretty lousy, actually. Am I missing something? I don't mind hoarse vocals, but these are almost comically so (reminds me a little of Marah, who I never warmed up to), and the backing music feels kind of bland at first listen. I'm not sure what I was expecting them to sound like,

Looking over the list of his life achievements, I am utterly amazed at how strongly I disagree with seemingly everything he ever did, at least in terms of his public life. How is that possible?? Certainly he must have had some redeeming qualities. Perhaps he was kind to kittens or could do magic tricks. Or something. C'mon, somebody throw me a bone here cuz I got nothing...

I heard somewhere that rain on your wedding day was supposed to be lucky. I've also heard that its ironic.

I wasn't aware the Dispatch did music reviews.

This may be the best Eagles album the Eagles never made
quarter23cd replied to ewapotwood's topic in Just A Fan
I'm pleased with myself that I accurately predicted both the Eagles comparison and the Weather Channel jab. I've made a game of trying to predict the critical reactions--its the only thing that makes reading the reviews even remotely interesting since I formed an opinion on the album long ago and am way beyond the point of wanting to argue about it. -

I'm pretty sure that's an automatic NC17. -

Point taken. Although seeing my 2 year old dance to "Boys of Summer" recently while waiting for a table at Applebee's made me admit a certain weakness for that one. -

I like the Eagles better since it became cool to hate them. Actually, I'm being kind of serious--the only one of their albums I truly can't stand is the last one. Well, and the post-reunion stuff. And most of the solo stuff. But other than that, its not so bad. -
My vote is for "18 and Life" for the first dance.
