You'll be fine. Enjoy the moment, Jen. I know you guys don't really drink, so there goes my best bit of wedding-day advice. Just remember to breathe every once in a while and I think you'll come out ok.

Family of girl, 12, sues after 'Brokeback' shown in class
quarter23cd replied to SlowBurn68's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I can recall watching a few movies in school that, nowadays, would probably be lawsuit-bait (Apocalypse Now, A Clockwork Orange, and Roman Polanski's version of Macbeth come to mind), but those were all in high school and were shown in classes where they weren't out of context or anything.(English/film/drama classes) Regardless of content, showing an R rated movie to 12 year olds, especially without really providing any context to why you are watching it, and doubly-especially when you preface it with comments like "What happens here, stays here"...yeah, that's just asking for a heap of trou -
Not necessarily because of this, but I haven't downloaded anything in months. Coincidentally, I also haven't bought anything in months.

My department at work is taking the afternoon off and going to see this. I never saw the first two movies and am not really a fan of comic-book-movies in general, but I am a big fan of not working on Friday afternoons. Is this worth me sticking around to watch, or should I just take a "bathroom break" when the house lights dim and then just leave?

SBS is his audition tape. Going on The View is bizarre, but probably no moreso than appearing on any other TV talk show. The late night shows are more established platforms for musicians to come hawk their new albums, but the daytime circuit probably isn't much different. I'm filing this one in the "amusing, but ultimately uninteresting" drawer.

Not to mention, the legendary lost tapes: Eatin' With the Miles Davis Quintet Sleepin' With the Miles Davis Quintet Poopin' With the Miles Davis Quintet I kid because I love. Those are indeed some great records.

Fair enough, here are my previous ones w/ added names... ...and a couple more for good measure: Morphine Good, Cure for Pain, Yes, Like Swimming, The Night Yo La Tengo Fakebook, Painful, Electr-O-Pura, I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One, And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out

Paging Dr Wilco: Get the defibrillators and save this album
quarter23cd replied to owl's topic in Just A Fan
Oh, wow. I didn't notice that this was from the Guardian. It reads like it came from a blog where somebody is trying desperately to be clever. Somebody actually published this? I hereby rescind my tepid praise. PS - "Dougie" Howser was my favorite part. -

Ha! That was actually kind of entertaining in a pointless kind of way. -
Stuck at work--convinced that if I stare at my Pepsi bottle long enough, it might turn into one of these:

Its got two decades worth of expectations to live up to. How could it possibly fail?

Bill Pullman=Lone Star>=Luke Skywalker, hence negating the need for more Star Wars movies. Scientifically proven.

I bought Blueberry Boat after reading about it and thinking it sounded kind of fun, and I liked a few of the clips I heard. The actual record itself I had trouble getting into. It has its moments, but definitely can only really be done in small doses for me.

Not in the physical sense, no, but in essence his decision to "play dead" is an effort to express the emptiness he feels in a spiritual sense after being trapped into the kind of soulless corporate lifestyle that, while it allows him to afford such a luxurious shorefront weekend home, ultimately leaves him feeling unfulfilled. He invited the two young chaps to his weekend home in hopes of engaging them on the subject, yet they failed to understand the depth of his pain that caused this sort of living-death. Sure, the corpse-waterskiing was fun, but how is it possible that nobody is picking

While the title sounds promising, the content really wasn't what I thought it would be.

Good point. I think this caught me in a cranky/sarcastic mood this morning. Ultimately, this doesn't affect me one way or another. I'm not even really that big a fan of the originals (the toys were way cooler than the movies themselves), but eh, whatever. I just kind of wish somebody would put this much thought and effort into something new rather than continuing to drag out the old warhorses again and again. Oh well. In any case, I'll be anxiously awaiting the glorious return of the Weekend at Bernie's series.

I'm not sure Mr Lucas is in a position where he should be criticizing other people's crappy sequels. Unfortunately, I feel the same way about these that I felt about the last 3 Star Wars movies: if I see them, it will be against my better judgment. I might, at some point, show my kids the original few films since they were a big part of my childhood, but I won't by any means be rushing them to the theater for these. On another note, another Indiana Jones??? Are we forever doomed to an endless cycle of sequels, remakes, comic book adaptations, Disneyland-ride tie-ins, and sequels to all

What's he gonna do, kill him? Oh, wait...

I doubt you'll find too many people around here espousing the album-sales-as-measure-of-greatness approach. All art is inherently subjective, which is kind of what makes it awesome. The resulting conversations about what is "better" are sometimes interesting, but more often annoying.

As a means of repayment to society at large, I'd be willing to settle for substantially-discounted hotel prices for all. I could use a vacation.
