  1. Being There (in its entirety) But mostly I'm hoping they let the new songs rip in a live setting. While SBS stays on a pretty even keel on record, there are several spots here where these songs could potentially bust out and rock like a mofo. (I'm looking at you YAMF, IG, Seeds, Shake It Off, Walken) ** and I'll second the call to mess with the arrangements...particularly of the "old standards" in the setlist.
  2. Not really. I had a brief career as a copy editor after college (not for a newspaper, but still) and let me tell you I was one lazy SOB about it. I might as well have had a rubber stamp that said "Sure, looks good to me!" Then again, I pretty quickly realized my level of disinterest and went and found something else to do for a living. It takes a special kind of maniacally-obsessive person to make a good editor, and those aren't as plentiful as one might think.
  3. This is awesome. It would be even better if when he's in the field he's constantly yelling "heeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy-batta-batta..." I miss Little Leauge.
  4. Early morning props to a couple DC-based skins-bashers from not-currently-active bands: Joe Easley - Dismemberment Plan Brendan Canty - Fugazi
  5. Agreed, I guess. Having grown up just outside DC and living in the outer NYC metro area for a long time, I tended to ride subways/trains more often than not when going into the city to save on the hassle of parking, etc. It probably didn't save me any time--in fact it made the trip longer, but in a lot of ways it was worth it. You're right, though, people aren't really going to flock to trains unless driving represents a significant frustration, so I'm not sure how viable rail systems are for mid-size cities. Also, another mark against trains these days is the increase in sprawl--in my
  6. Do you guys think this is too long to use as a new screen name? I really like it.
  7. Did I read that bracket correctly that Florida isn't in the tourney? Because I'm getting a little tired of seeing my Buckeyes get bounced by the Gators in every sport.
  8. The lack of alternative transportation in this country is mind-boggling, even in a lot of cities. I just moved to Columbus, OH and the first thing that struck me when I came back here was the absolute, complete lack of ANY sort of public transportation. (I mean, they have some limited bus service, but I don't think I know anyone who has ever actually ridden one more than once or twice) Its a growing city and the highways are getting jammed--evidently nobody had the foresight to plan for a transportation system. (I seem to recall a proposal for a light-rail system that got quickly shot down)
  9. Psst. Didn't you get the memo that we're supposed to check our elitism at the door once the VW ad started airing? I'm not really here to defend or condemn the DMB. I liked em for a while in the early days but grew away from them...but I'll still give them their due as musicians. Like the music or not (or, more likely, in this case--like the fans or not) its hard to argue that they can play. Whether that's your thing or whether you think it is "wanky" is another matter. But what's the point in criticizing people for their tastes?
  10. Why stop there? "Our love, our love is all of Amazon.com's money..."
  11. Except that it looks like in one of those things a collision with even a particularly large insect could be -fatal.
  12. Let me know when Wilco buys the naming rights to a sporting arena or concert hall, because that has long been one of my biggest pet peeves. I hate that shit. This still ranks fairly low on the corporate-evilness meter, but I've got my eye on you, Wilco. I've got my eye on you.
  13. Not a bad list we got going here. Here's a few more, keeping in the jazzy/jammy line of thinking, I guess: Stanton Moore (Galactic/Garage a Trois/solo) Billy Martin (Medeski Martin & Wood...not the former baseball manager) Carter Beauford is quite good. I saw DMB a lot in their early days and really enjoyed his playing and thought the band had tremendous potential. Its a shame the way things stagnated once they started becoming more famous.(I'm sure they can still cook live, tho, which is probably why they still have a following) Oh well. I have often thought over the years that
  14. Mission accomplished. No, but it goes in cycles whether or not it is cool to acknowledge it.
  15. I don't know what you guys are talking about, my morning commute was a breeze. Except I kept spilling coffee on myself, the stereo sucks, and the wind poofed my hair into an afro. Oh well, small price to pay...
  16. Not at all. Hypothetically, how much would one have to pay in order to get their favorite team's name inserted up there?
  17. Playing Baltimore and Cinci didn't hurt, either.
  18. I had my ipod on shuffle yesterday and it came up with this sequence: Impossible Germany>Muzzle of Bees>Poor Places>Spiders ...which dawned on me how much that would cook live, particularly if each song bled into the next.
  19. Probably just fine. The bigger question might be how we will react when that person's newfound Wilco-appreciation leads him/her here and a new thread pops up saying "Hi, I just discovered Wilco at Starbucks..." ...and since when did "Monday" become so inaccessible to the average listener??
  20. Fight the power, bro.
