Yeah, I agree to some extent. But if you think about it, coffee shops in particular kind of have an established history being intertwined with books and music...which is why you started seeing big stores like Borders and B&N with cafes in them start popping up all over the place. Starbucks isn't that much different than that, except that they only have a handful of non-food-related items that they sell.

I drank coffee while listening to Wilco in my car this morning. True story. Ok, more seriously... Starbucks definitely has a curious influence on music sales these days, but I'm not sure about this: Its the "OK to listen to" part that gets me...I'm not sure what that means. But Starbucks has established themselves as the default destination for people who realize they want to drink something better than truck-stop coffee but don't necessarily want to have to search for it. So I guess I can see a similar thing happening with the music they carry in the stores--its largely stuff people m

Making sure the team doesn't get all uppity by, you know, winning on a consistent basis or anything. Its the Angelos Way. (I also agree with the idea of making everyone else look good by comparison)

You're just listening wrong. Try it again. You are, however, listening correctly to ABBA and Wings.

I have no opinion on the Cold War Kids--heard a couple tunes via satellite radio and that's about it. Never would have picked up on the religious connection and am not sure if it would have affected my judgement or not. I do find the racial commentary here kind of interesting (and maybe a little uncomfortable), though. To pick an example, I'm not a religious guy but I could listen to Bob Marley all day long and barely bat an eye at the overtly religious nature of a lot of the songs. I'm certainly no Rastafarian, and not even Christian, but it doesn't bother me in the least. In fact, I

I went to pick up a pizza last night and was wearing the red pre-order t-shirt with the big-lettered WILCO with the shoes hanging off the L with the arrow through them and the big surly dude behind the counter just gave me a "wtf?" kind of look. It was pretty awesome.

No ABBA?

Its all about the cheap labor, for better or for worse. That's capitalism, I guess. Its just the way things go. But, yeah, it kind of sucks when your job security isn't really dependent on the quality of your work. The problem with living in the wealthiest nation in the world is that, well, it costs a lot to live here and we expect to be paid accordingly. Certainly, somebody somewhere is always going to be willing to do a given job for less. Business-wise, it would be dumb not to pursue cheaper alternatives. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next several years when, in

Right. Hell, I'm a techie, too, and can definitely relate to what you're saying about outsourcing and cheap labor and whatnot, but even I have to admit its hard to see past the allure of cheap toys. I wouldn't count on many people to object on moral grounds. (except people who already don't shop at Wal-Mart anyway) Cod bless the technology that makes it possible to do almost anyone's job from anywhere at any time. Its an amazing thing (no sarcasm there--it really is!)...it just kind of blows for anyone who is trying to, you know, have a career or something. But, hey, they've got antidep

I have watched mine exactly once in the three years I have owned it. Wouldn't sell it, though.

Add Hate it Here, and you got it. Least favorite is still Leave Me Like You Found Me. Impossible Germany has grown on me the most. I like What Light, but I don't like the album version as much as the live versions. The opposite is true for Shake it Off. I don't care much for the strings on any of these songs. Even when I don't like this album, I still like it.

Between this and that Martha Stewart comp a few years back, Wilco is evidently highly regarded in domestic-diva circles. Just wait until they find out Jeff can fold shirts and use the washing machine!

I wouldn't mind seeing it go the other way for a solid decade or so. Do you believe in karma, Jeffrey Maier?

I'm pretty sure the CD or mp3 version of the album could help with this problem. Part of me is vaguely interested in getting into this whole vinyl fetish so many of you guys have. I have nothing against the format and am curious in trying to hear the sonic differences you guys speak of...the last record I owned was either the Dukes of Hazzard tv soundtrack or something by the Smurfs. Tapes were the format of my youth and I do sometimes miss the Side1/Side2 breaks, so I get what you guys are saying about listening to "sides" on vinyl. I don't see vinyl as a practical possibility for me b

I'm perfectly willing to concede that I may be nuts, but that doesn't necessarily make me wrong. I doubt the song was written directly about JF or JB, though, as noted, it did come out shortly after that bit where Farrar aired some old dirty laundry in some magazine and that probably influenced the way I heard the song. I still don't think the song is actually about him, but the thought is there...living rent free, in the back of my head. As for the "religious right" interpretation--yeah, there's definitely a theme running through several songs on the album, but I don't see that happening -
Can I substitute the first Loose Fur album in place of Summerteeth?

I'll pass on the Rambo while I keep waiting for him to make Even Further Over the Top: Thumb-Westlemania!
