The Waco and Felice Brothers and Justin Townes Earle
wilceaux replied to LouieB's topic in Someone Else's Song
I really like the Felice Bros. Hopefully they can continue to develop their songwriting. Their songs are straight out of the Basement Tapes for sure. I can't get "Frankie's Gun" out of my head. Great tune. -
Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward = She & Him
wilceaux replied to Vacant Horizon's topic in Someone Else's Song
I saw the set yesterday at the museum. Sentimental Heart was my favorite before seeing them live, and it is still my favorite. Zooey really needs to work on her stage presence. Not much personality at all. Thurston Moore and Okkervil River's sets (before and after She and Him) were awesome, btw. -
I've got a thing for Sun.

Okkervil River is playing with Roky Erikson. Should be pretty crazy. I didn't see M. Ward and Zooey on the list. They are playing at the Episcopal Church.

I don't really see that as dissing at all.

Well said, cw.

My top three sets of the weekend: Arcade Fire Wilco Heartless Bastards.
-
They actually just got added to the ACL fest.
-
Looks like the weather is going to cooperate. Highs in the upper 80s, partly cloudy and not real humid.
-
Thanks for the heads up Jakob! Saw them for free at Waterloo Records on Friday. Pretty good 40 minute performance, not great, but good.
-
Wilco is doing an ACL taping on Saturday night. I doubt they are playing Stubb's.

The crystal football won't have far to travel after the national championship game in New Orleans. Geaux Tigahs!

I think I'll go see The Heartless Bastards at The Parish regardless.

My new wife and I will be making a trip to Italy in the Fall, probably October. We will have about 12 days. I'm trying to figure out a good itinerary. I would really like to go to Florence, Venice, and Sicily (family ties). Any advice would be great.

Saw them about 2 months ago with strings and horns and it was fantastic. New record should be really good.

One of many reasons I love this town. I'm surprised Ryan Adams isn't playing, with the new record and all. Hopefully he will be added later.

Hey cw, I responded in the wedding songs thread before I saw this one. I just wanted to add, another cool band on Friday night you might be interested in is Chili Cold Blood. They are playing at Beerland on Red River. This looks interesting. "CINCO DE MAYO CHICAS POBRES FUNDRAISER is your chance to see the TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls take off their skates (or not?) for some pudding wrestling, tricycle jousting, belching, and other ladylike competition. There's also beer, live music, a team-date auction, and fun activities for the kids. All of today's proceeds benefit the above mentione

I'm from Lake Charles. Lived in Baton Rouge for a couple years, and Lafayette for about 12 years. I'm a big fan of Red Stick Ramblers as well. I'll actually be in Lafayette Friday night for my "Bachelor" party with P-Funk. I would recommend the Son Volt show in Helotes (outside of San Antonio) on Saturday night over the Stubb's show, if you don't mind making the drive. Either one will be great though. The band opening for Son Volt (High Strung) has an in-store show at Waterloo Records at 5:00PM on Friday. If you've never been, it's a fantastic record store. You might want to go to the Aust

I too am getting married soon (June 15th), and appreciate all the responses. My fiancee is Indian (Hindu) and I am Cajun/Italian mix (raised Catholic) from south Louisiana. We are having a great Cajun band in our big reception room (Lost Bayou Ramblers), and a sitar player in the "lounge" area. But I want a mix playlist for when the band takes a break, or if the party is still going after the band quits. If anyone has any ideas on unique wedding ceremony music (not the traditional classical songs), I would appreciate it.

Same here. Those three are my favorites.

"Sky Blue Sky is an astounding demonstration of their ability to move between soulful acoustic folk, jazzy blues, country skank and pumping rock." Mmmmmm, country skank.

I've read nothing but praise for "Walken". Which leads me to ask, am I the only one that hates this song? It's the only song on the record I really don't like.
