  1. I like the fact that most 'rock books' read more like an overall career retrospective and these really focus in more on a specific body of work...allowing the reader to really get a more detailed view on what may be one of their favorite albums. Good review of the series and some of it's (per the writer) better offerings from the Chicago Trib...
  2. A-man, it seems each author has had kind of a different approach. The one on the Beastie Boys 'Paul's Boutique' was so meticulous and detailed on the actual recording process, whereas the one i'm reading now on the Stone Roses 'Stone Roses' has a lot of stuff about how the album shaped the author's personal life thrown in w/ a track by track story/analyzation. The Pixies 'Doolittle' is kind of constructed around the author spending some time w/ Frank Black and his feedback on the album interwoven w/ the actual background on it's recording. I think you'd like some of them, depending on the subj
  3. They announced the 21 books they'll be signing up for publication during 2008 and 2009 on their blog (those in bold are the ones i'm really stoked about)... In no particular order: Funkadelic: Maggot Brain - by Matt Rogers Slayer: Reign in Blood - DX Ferris Tori Amos: Boys for Pele - Elizabeth Merrick Fleetwood Mac: Tusk - Rob Trucks Nas: Illmatic - Matthew Gasteier The Pogues: Rum, Sodomy & the Lash - Jeffery Roesgen Wire: Pink Flag - Wilson Neate Big Star: Radio City - Bruce Eaton Pavement: Wowee Zowee - Bryan Charles Madness: One Step Beyond - Terry Edwards Israel Kamakawiwo'ole: Fa
  4. I've read articles/book snippets where it cites that Jethro seems to have a pretty diverse range of artisitic influences...from Cheap Trick to PIL to Big Star to blah, blah, blah. My guess is that this was something (w/ Jay's influence) he was feeling at the time. Hard pressed to believe it was any sort of satire.
  5. most dissapointing piece of celluloid i've ever seen. good god, was it unfunny...and I fucking love the D.
  6. There is liquor store right up the street that carries that...and i'm in Illinois.
  7. I liked Power in Numbers, but the last one was awful...definitely lost something when Cut Chemist left. They still put on of my favorite live gigs ever though, so it's kind of a bummer.
  8. it'sallgood, ronnie james. i'm a fan of over-caffienated a-man.
  9. It's for the best...Rage is getting back together for some festivals this Summer. Just the concept of that is 100X more exciting than anything Audioslave or solo Cornell ever did. EDIT: and Peter's last post was genius.
  10. Now that's a show! A saw an episode where some porn star got her starfish bleached for her final adult feature! USA!
  11. man, you are on a roll today!
  12. finally caught Borat over the weekend...funny, but not midblowingly so. the wrestling scene was one of the most disturbing things i've ever seen.
  13. Completely agree w/ the Saw Doctors, Black 47 (my favorite), The Tossers and i'll throw in The Drovers as well.
  14. If those motherfuckers pull a Bobby Ewing at the end of all this, i'll boycott ABC for as long as the series was on TV.
  15. I think he was going to say something to the extent of that he knew Locke as well (like the others), except that the info he had on him still had him as being crippled. It turns out my call w/ Beijing is still on Tuesday night...Microsoft Outlook snafu.
  16. I don't know if it'd be in my DIDs, but it's still 5-Star listening for me too.
  17. what's the point? every album doesn't have to be astral weeks and should be enjoyed even if it's only enjoyable for a certain period of time. bigger than that, the alarm being a great example, there are albums certain people may still consider 5-star to this day...personal tastes make everything subjective, y'know. the hair belt thing though, that was fucking awesome (snort, look smug, reach for shrunken head on living-room table).
  18. Via Netflix, we'll finally be watching Borat this weekend (excited!). and the Tenacious D movie...which i'm already thinking i might be a little underwhelmed by. i'll probably watch some Food Network as well.
