I think the only reason I'm glad I bought 29 is because of its cover.
-
Did anyone notice that his watch on the cove reads 4:20? Furthermore, does anyone find this lame?
-
Eh, I be brave and admit it: I'm super excited. Make Believe was pretty run-of-the-mill, but the leaked song, Pig, gives me hope. They're also one of my favorite bands, so I'll be at least curious.

Well, theyre playing at my university's arena, so I may have to try to get a cheap day-of ticket. Not a huge fan, but damn do they have an impressive singles collection. Any idea of the ticket prices? -
From alt-country.org (essentially the new ryanadams.org): An anonymous poster on Brooklyn Vegan says that it's a private gig - which I had come to suspect - and that it was HR's fuckup to list it."" May solve some problems for your Warsaw people...

Already growing on second listen. Still don't see it reaching even my top five fav RA records, but I can see it getting a 7/10. Would love to get into the Hiro Ballroom show, though. We'll see.....

On my first listen at least, this is exactly how I feel. The songs simply seem underwritten, though his voice sounds great. I, too, find it surprising that this is getting strong reviews and CR got mixed ones.

MS and Friends are two of my fav songs on the record. While the others, except Cherry Lane, which I think is great, are not the best songs on the album, I still enjoy them. CR is pretty close to perfect, and def my fav. Ryan record

Ughhhh on first listen I'm gonna call Easy Tiger my 2nd least favorite Ryan record, right above 29. I can see it as a grower, if only because Two has grown on me, but I don't see it touching Cold Roses, Heartbreaker, JCN or Love Is Hell. A lot, if not most, of the songs are only two verses and two chorus, which to my ears makes them sound a little unfinished. It also gets a little repetitive, with not many excellent moments sticking out. This is, of course, only a first impression, but hey, it's still an opinion.

One of my fav bands. I would agree with War -> Unforgettable Fire -> Joshua Tree as their best run, but I wouldn't say they have a bad album. I also thought HTDAAB was better than AYCLB; the production might have been too clean and the lyrics a big buffonish at times, but I thought the songs themselves were consistantly well written. And the ensuing tour gave me some memories I'll never forget.

Time after time, Jack White's actions make me think he's just a huge ass.

Well, I'd personally say Mass Romantic has the most jaw-dropping moments, but Twin Cinema is the most consistent. That being said, I can't think of a better pop-songwriter this decade than Newman. Just get all of them. This song is good, but on first listen there was nothing killer. No killer hooks that usually come naturally. Still pumped for Challengers, though.

It sounds as though he made it up on the spot. I liked Ever Present Past quite a bit, but this I found boring.

Let's do this A.M. - C + Being There - A - Summerteeth - A YHF - A AGIB - A + SBS - B (at this point)

Alright, I'll take a stab at this. In no particular order: 1. Elvis Costello 2. Neil Young 3. Wilco 4. Bruce Springsteen 5. The Velvet Underground/Lou Reed/John Cale 6. Weezer 7. Ryan Adams 8. R.E.M. 9. John Coltrane 10. Frank Sinatra 11. The Strokes 12. U2 13. Radiohead 14. Death Cab For Cutie 15. Beastie Boys 16. Jay-Z 17. New Pornographers 18. Sondre Lerche 19. Burt Bacharach 20. Jim O'Rourke

I personally think Jeff Buckley is overrated, but yea, his version of the song never fails to kick my ass everytime I listen to it.
-
Does anyone if STE has a direct e-mail address, or do you have to write to a general AMG address?
-
Two is about as mediocre as Ryan gets, but whatever. Rock n' Roll, for what it is, is awesome. ET should be killer.
-
And don't forget that Costello recorded those five albums--as well as the excellent covers record "Almost Blue"--in as many years.
-
Anyone who thnks the Doors are deep is a severely misguided. This is face, so don't bother arguing.
-
I have to agree with the junior-high statement - that was ridiculously ametuerish.
-
I'm still pissed that all the shows on his current tour are 21 plus. I could see Elvis when I was 15, but not at 20?
-
Good but definitely not great. I'm still pumped for the new record, as I thought the songwriting on Antics was sharper than on the debut.
-
29 was def. December 2005.... And regarding the Crow track: Ryan deserves a hit. I hope that song is a tenth as popular as "Picture," her duet with Kid Rock.

I would say that any one who considered himself a serious music fan would have to own all of VU's studio records. Their importance is impossible to exaggerate, and I'm sure they've turned many people into music fanatics.
