  1. This album is excellent. The fact that they've made one of their four best albums 18 years later is nothing short of spellbinding. And Harpoon Dodger: My friend said he wanted something raw today. I gave him Tonight's The Night. He liked it. I said, "of course you liked it."
  2. Sick cover, sick song titles. Still want lyrics.
  3. This is devistating news and have lost almost all interest. EDIT: I just read the email from the Capitol records employee, and it's rather ambiguous. It could merely mean that there are instruments on each track, though I'm still nervous.
  4. SO PUMPED. Def seeing the tour, too.
  5. I like it, and I don't really like about 90% of McCartney solo stuff. I only heard Firing Line once, but I recall it sounding a little too Beatle-ish. This sounds like a nice 80's pop song.
  6. Did anyone see the show? Henry Rollins is such a badass, but I've never watched. I just can't get over how much talent Ryan has. He should have been a star, but oh well. At least I get to love his music.
  7. 00's 1. AGIB 2. Kid A 90's 1. Pinkerton 2. Summerteeth 80's 1. R.E.M. - Murmur 2. Dinosaur Jr. - You're Living All Over Me 70's 1. Tonight's the Night 2. Born To Run/My Aim Is True 60'S 1. Pet Sounds 2. VU and Nico 50's 1. In The Wee Small Hours 2. Giant Steps
  8. Harpoon Dodger - that RS line about Tonight's The Night is perfect. I had never read that before today.
  9. While the political lyrics on TT5B aren't particuarly insightful, they ARE pretty freaking entertaining: We have a president we didn't elect The Kyoto Treaty he decided to neglect. come on, that's funny!
  10. I'll break the mold: Cole Porter Burt Bacharach Elvis Costello
  11. I am SO excited for this, as I am one of the few who continues to love TT5B! I never have more fun with music than I do with the Beastie's.
  12. These will do: Frank Sinatra - In The Wee Small Hours VU - VU and Nico R.E.M. - Murmur Elvis Costello: My Aim Is True Beach Boys: Pet Sounds
  13. I'd say hardcore Neil fans would list Tonight's The Night and On The Beach as his twin-towering masterpieces.
  14. On a side note, I listened to The Band's ST record two nights ago for the first time in over a year. It was rather perfect.
  15. That pretty much proves my point - and I certainly am not dissing you. And I also know that a lot of people on this forum have great and ecclectic taste, so don't think I'm hatin' on anyone.
  16. I just think Louie B is the greatest person ever, The Band and Wilco be damned. Honestly, the depth of your musical knowledge is nothing short of mindblowing.

Yea, On and On and On was the only song I thought was really great on first listen.

There are parts of the record I really like: when the strings come in in Either Way; the guitar work in Impossible Germany; the verse chord progession in Please Be Patient With Me. But the songs themselves, imo, are lacking. Wilco has always done a fantastic job at taking mundane progessions and making them fascinating; here the songs are just okay. I don't care that it's not uptempo, nor does the lack of poetic, elusive lyrics, but on first listen I just find it ignorable, which is a great dissapointment to say the least.
  19. I haven't heard this yet, but I'm pretty sure Nick Cave is the artist I'm going to fall in love with this year. I bought Let Love In in December and it blows my mind. I also have The Boatman's Call and love it.
  20. Perhaps. But I only bought those records because of the hyperbolic praise that was bestowed upon them; I'm simply not a fan.
  21. Elephant ranks high on my list of most overrated albums of the decade. GBMS was better, but I will ignore this one.
  22. Let's not forget CR was the most recent record cut, and, in my opinion, his best. Can't wait for this - I've been waiting for too long.
