  1. He got a nice ovation at Fenway today after they took him out of the game.
  2. Good to hear. I just got it but haven't read it yet. I liked Twisted River a lot but embarrasingly had forgotten about Until I Find You. That was the tatoo themed book?
  3. Pretty lengthy and all-over-the-place interview with Chan: http://www.thestoolpigeon.co.uk/features/interview-cat-power.html
  4. As are David Lowery's bands Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker.
  5. I know. That is pretty amazing and I hope he can keep it up. I remember Tim Wakefield's first season with the Red Sox (1995) he had a pretty amazing streak. At one point he was 14-1 with an ERA around 1.60. I saw a couple of his games in that stretch and batters just couldn't hit him. Everyone knew the knuckleball was coming and they still couldn't hit it. He had some other nice runs during his time with the Sox but nothing quite like that first one.
  6. On Saturday, my daughter and I waited for hours at the grand opening of Georgetown Cupcake's new store in Boston. When we finally got in the store Pot Kettle Black came on over the store's speakers.
  7. Saw Moonrise Kingdom last night and thought it was great. Very Wes Anderson and very original, clever, and funny. The whole family went and my wife and 13 year old daughter loved it but my 17 year old son said it was "weird."
  8. Sacred sites of REM (from the A.V. Club): http://avc.lu/LkV80j
  9. I guess everything is fine with the Stone Roses: But a spokeswoman has dismissed the incident, telling Sky News: "The band didn't play an encore - which is quite normal for them - and they had already played their full planned set so no one walked off before the end." She added: "All tour dates continue as planned." http://news.sky.com/home/showbiz-news/article/16246390
  10. From Richard Lloyd's facebook page: I regret to inform you that the Richard Lloyd and Grand Strand June 2012 Tour has been cancelled. Richard's health has declined over the past week and on June 11 he was admitted to the hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. Again I am sorry for the cancellation. Team Lloyd
  11. They did one tour with all original 4 and that's the one I saw. It was great. They have toured since then with a new drummer and bass player, and I have not seen them. At the show in Boston original drummer Hugo Burnham, who lives around here, came out and played the encore with them.
  12. And apparently it's done ... http://www.holymoly....-goes-home63339 EDIT: little hard to tell from this blog whether Reni left the show or left for good.
  13. Came out on this date in 1985. Still one of my favorites REM albums.
  14. just let the thread die, you highly messed up freak!
  15. Not as good as his Any Human Heart, but still an enjoyable read.
  16. Wayne Coyne's latest kerfuffle: http://pitchfork.com/news/46765-erykah-badu-is-super-pissed-at-the-flaming-lips-right-now-about-that-nsfw-video/
  17. I wonder the same thing (about my kids, not yours). They read other comics - and read and re-read all of the Foxtrot collections - but they almost refuse to look at Calvin & Hobbes. I wonder if I pushed it too hard on them.
  18. I agree. I am usually fairly picky about what books I start but once I start them it is fairly rare that I don't finish them. I read a fair amount and I can only think of less than ten books in the past 25 years that I have not finished. Interestingly, two of them have been in the last month. I also keep books after I read them. I am happy to loan them to people but I like to get them back. My wife is the opposite on both counts. She'll start a book, read 25 or 50 pages and if she doesn't like it, she'll put it away and start something else. She also gives books away as soon as she fin
  19. Agree - and I'll add in that I also love Lethem's writing. (And I swear I posted something similar in this thread but I can't find it.) I liked his approach but then I'd lose his train of thought.
  20. Hope it was worth it to him. He missed his son's first birthday because he was being held awaiting arraignment, and he might be fined and banned from CitiField for life ... http://gothamist.com/2012/06/03/shocking_jorts-loving_no-hitter_par.php
