  3. I was just in the Harvard Book Store looking at a copy of Rick Moody's new book. It's a colleciton of essays about music and includes a piece on Wilco. While I was flipping through the book trying to decide whether to buy it, Reservations came on. I bought the book ...
  4. I might be there. But I also might be at the Big Apple Circus with my daughter. (I know they are not at the same time but I'm probably not up for doing both ...)
  5. I remember seeing Moyer pitch during his short stint with the Red Sox (1996 maybe?) and thinking he was a decent, end of the rotation guy who probably wouldn't be around much longer. I guess that is why I'm not a baseball scout.

  7. What Ghost said and therefore for me it is the 1980s. I started the decade by listening only to the Dead but by 1985 and for the next five years I was listening to (and importantly, going to see) REM, Talking Heads, Husker Du, the Feelies, Sonic Youth, Replacements, Minutemen, Meat Puppets, Throwing Muses, Pixies, Dinosaur Jr., Galaxie 500, etc.
  8. There are four video clips in the link above. I'm listening to the China Cat/Rider right now and it's pretty good. They've got a trumpet in the mix which is cool.
  9. You can read about - and see - the National and Weir here: http://stereogum.com/985452/watch-the-bridge-session-national-members-playing-with-bob-weir/video/
  10. Broken Bells put out an album and a four song EP.
  11. The always-great Bradley's Almanac blog has a long posting about Kozelek with info, links, pictures, set lists, and a giveaway. Check it out: http://www.bradleysalmanac.com/2012/03/lp-previewdvd-reviewep-giveaway-mark.html
  12. Tough day for relievers in the AL East: Joba Chamberlain might be out for the year after injuring his ankle on a trampoline: http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/yankeesblog/joba_out_indefinitely_after_very_emjQkxCTkgO3bLlmSEB27K?utm_source=SFnewyorkpost&utm_medium=SFnewyorkpost
  13. How do you feel about Bobby Jenks? He was arrested on a DUI and hit and run charges after leaving a strip club last night: http://www.news-press.com/article/20120323/SPORTS/120323005/Red-Sox-relief-pitcher-Bobby-Jenks-arrested-DUI-hit-run-charges-Lee-County?odyssey=nav|head
  14. I know it is verging into Chinese Democracy territory but it looks like the MBV reissues are actually coming out in May, along with a collection of EPs, b-sides, and three unreleased songs. http://www.slicingupeyeballs.com/2012/03/22/my-bloody-valentine-reissues-loveless-isnt-anything-eps-1988-1991/
  15. Not a clue. The Jets just signed Sanchez to an extension. Sanchez seems a little frazzled this past season so I'm not sure what bringing in Tebow will do for his confidence. And now it looks like there might be a snag over some contract language.
  16. And in other NFL news on this March day: Tebow to the Jets. http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/story/_/id/7718133/new-york-jets-acquire-tim-tebow-4th-round-pick-source-says
  17. Agreed. And Black Eye is one of the ten best songs that Jeff Tweedy has ever written.
  18. I will admit that I'm a bit confused by the Kony/Invisible Children issue but the whole thing just took a step in a weird direction: http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/jason-russell-san-diego-invisible-children-kony-2012-142970255.html
  19. Started this last night. It's a pretty amazing (and true) story about two oil tankers caught in a storm off of Cape Cod in the early 1950s. They both split in half with the crews still on board. Despite the 70 foot seas, the Coast Guard sent out a 36-foot wooden boat with a crew of four to rescue the crew of one of the tankers.
  20. Lars and the Real Girl. This was on my DVR for over a year and I never watched it until tonight. I thought it was great ...
  21. He's a hipster and only listens to wax cylinders.
  22. New Magnetic Fields came out yesterday. They are back to the synthy pop. So far, so good.
