He's one step ahead of you. He signed a two-year contract with the Japan Series champion Fukuoka Softbank Hawks back in December.

When he was with the (Red) Sox, I saw Pena hit one of the longest home runs I have ever seen. I'm not sure why anyone ever threw him a fastball because he would crush it. But he just couldn't handle any off-speed stuff, particualrly a good curveball. At times he looked mystified that a ball could move like that.

Oh you are right. I thought you were saying it was a something else (a guitar maybe) made to sound like a sitar. It seems like it was an electric sitar.

Hmm, an old friend who is a big Steely Dan buff told me it was the original dude. EDIT: don't know if wikipedia is the best source for this stuff but if you believe the wiki, the Do It Again solo is on a real sitar and it is Dias playing it. Elliott Randall did play some Steely Dan solos. "Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page has reportedly said that Elliott Randall's guitar solo on "Reelin' In the Years" is his favorite solo of all time.[1][2] That solo was also ranked the 40th best guitar solo of all time by the readers of Guitar World magazine.[3]"

Right - the camera is on Denny Dias, one of the founding members and the original guitar player. He also plays the sitar solo on Do It Again.

New album is out in May. http://www.caldoverderecords.com/ Among The Leaves is the 5th full length album by Mark Kozelek under the Sun Kil Moon moniker. Played almost entirely on nylon string guitar, this 17-song all original album was recorded between October 2011 and January 2012 in San Francisco. Among The Leaves - words which caught Mark’s attention from a John Connolly novel - finds Mark relaxed, singing playfully about his life as a musician while retaining the melancholic spirit of his 20 year catalog. Mark’s love for San Francisco and Northern California are at the heart of this new

Not quite sure where to put this but last night I went to what was advertised as a Discussion with Dean & Britta. It was hosted/moderated by a Harvard Law School Professor, Jonathan Zittrain, who writes a lot about the internet. There were only about 20 people there which was sort of cool. They showed some clips of their Andy Warhol movies and then asked them lots of questions. Given Zittrain's background, some of the conversation was about file sharing and how the internet has changed the music industry. The quesitons from the audience ranged from standard ("Do you like all of your a

Do you know what sort of band is part of the tour? Strings and horns or more stripped down?

From Pitchfork: http://pitchfork.com/news/45352-listen-j-mascis-and-the-electronic-anthology-project-do-dinosaur-jrs-tarpit-synth-pop-style/ Dinosaur Jr. 's catalog has been reissued and celebrated with full-album tours. But, as previously reported, J Mascis will now look back on his career in a very different way. Mascis has teamed up with Built to Spill bassist Brett Nelson's Electronic Anthology Project to remake nine Dinosaur Jr. songs as full-blown synth-pop. "Tarpit" from 1987's You're Living All Over Me is the first taste. The album will be released in a limited-edition run of 500 pur

This article from the NY Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/15/arts/music/15pitchfork.html?pagewanted=all) seems to confirm that: "The ratings are not assigned lightly. “Over and over we revisit decisions before they’re on the site,” said Scott Plagenhoef, the editor in chief. Albums are discussed via e-mail and on a staff message board. The review is then assigned to a writer trusted to deliver the group’s opinion. Reviews have individual bylines, but they represent the Pitchfork hive-mind."

Saw Kozelek solo last night in Cambridge (MA). It was a very good show. It was in a church and he had the lights all turned off and he had a large candle in front of him, which provided the only light. I don't know if it was a mood thing or he just doesn't like having photos taken, but it was an odd environment. He played for about two hours and his set included a bunch of new songs, most of which were really good. For the encore he asked someone in the front row what she wanted to hear and after a minute of awkwardness where it seemed like she didn't know any of his songs, she said Duk

I don't know if this link will work, but David Lowery (Cracker/Camper Van Beethoven) has been writing about this extensively on facebook and some of the discussion is both heated and interesting. At one point he posts a screenshot from Mediashare showing every CVB album being illegally shared. https://www.facebook.com/davidclowery He also posts "The top 10 lamest excuses for stealing artists music" at his own website: http://300songs.com/
