  2. This article from the NY Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/15/arts/music/15pitchfork.html?pagewanted=all) seems to confirm that: "The ratings are not assigned lightly. “Over and over we revisit decisions before they’re on the site,” said Scott Plagenhoef, the editor in chief. Albums are discussed via e-mail and on a staff message board. The review is then assigned to a writer trusted to deliver the group’s opinion. Reviews have individual bylines, but they represent the Pitchfork hive-mind."
  3. Pitchfork's Wilco history: Summerteeth 9.4 MA2 6.3 YHF 10.0 More Like the Moon 7.0 A Ghost is Born 6.6 Kicking Television 8.3 Sky Blue Sky 5.2 Wilco the Album 7.3 The Whole Love 6.9 I don't have too many issues with this. I give AGIB and TWL higher numbers,
  4. Saw Kozelek solo last night in Cambridge (MA). It was a very good show. It was in a church and he had the lights all turned off and he had a large candle in front of him, which provided the only light. I don't know if it was a mood thing or he just doesn't like having photos taken, but it was an odd environment. He played for about two hours and his set included a bunch of new songs, most of which were really good. For the encore he asked someone in the front row what she wanted to hear and after a minute of awkwardness where it seemed like she didn't know any of his songs, she said Duk

  7. Not their best but there is some great stuff on here.
  8. And now it looks like Disney looked into Joy Division a little bit more and has pulled the shirts: http://pitchfork.com/news/45229-rip-joy-divison-mickey-mouse-shirt/
  9. I don't know if this link will work, but David Lowery (Cracker/Camper Van Beethoven) has been writing about this extensively on facebook and some of the discussion is both heated and interesting. At one point he posts a screenshot from Mediashare showing every CVB album being illegally shared. https://www.facebook.com/davidclowery He also posts "The top 10 lamest excuses for stealing artists music" at his own website: http://300songs.com/
  10. Fielder to Detroit for 9 years/$214 million: http://content.usato...s-214-million/1 And Lincecum reportedly signs for 2 years/$40.5 million: http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/01/24/report-lincecum-giants-very-very-close-to-a-two-year-40-million-deal/related/
  11. This is for real ... Inspired by the iconic sleeve of Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures album, this Waves Mickey Mouse Tee incorporates Mickey's image within the graphic of the pulse of a star. That's appropriate given few stars have made bigger waves than Mickey! http://www.disneysto...295574/1000228/
  12. A little background on the filming of this: http://betweenloveandlike.blogspot.com/2012/01/photographer-zoran-orlic-captures.html
  13. Don't forget to order your J Mascic throbblehead: http://aggronautix.com/products.cfm?productid=48
  14. RIP indeed. I only saw her once and it was at a Grateful Dead show. On 12/30/82 she and the Tower of Power horns came out for the two-song encore. (They played a longer set the next night.) But she was one of the greats.
  15. This Fausto Carmona/Roberto Heredia story is a weird one: http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/7480419/fausto-carmona-cleveland-indians-arrested-accused-using-false-identity
  16. Sure, but it's not totally outrageous given that Sabathia gets $24M, Johan Santana gets $21.6M, Zambrano gets $18.8M, and Zito gets $18.5M.
  17. I was there too and really enjoyed it. Per Tinnitus' comment above, I preferred CVB's set to Cracker's.
  18. Saw them last night play with Cracker and the show was great. I think I actually preferred the CVB set but they were both pretty rocking.
  19. We'll disagree on that. Yes, Robbie can't match Dylan's lyrics but musically, I'd rather listen to The Weight. Interesting that they were the two sides of the Band's first single, with The Weight being the A side.
  20. I agree. And if it is not The Weight it is I Shall Be Released. I remember hearing that Wilco and Fleet Foxes were going to put out a song together and I was excited and then I heard it was going to be I Shall Be Released. It's fine but not something I go back to very often.
  21. I have no idea if this is new or not but Pitchfork has an eight part mini-documentary about the making of the Soft Bulletin. I just watched the piece on Race For the Prize and it was pretty interesting. http://pitchfork.com/tv/pitchfork-classic/1885-the-flaming-lips-the-soft-bulletin/ And +2 on the Stephen Drozd appreciation ...
