Going to see them (with Cracker) in a couple of weeks. Saw them a bunch a long time ago but I don't think I've seen them in about 20 years.

Was pretty disappointed by this. The first half has some interesting stuff and interviews with a bunch of the original No Wave musicians but then it switches to the early 2000s and presents bands like the Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and the Liars as the next generation of NYC bands. And then it cuts back to old timers like Lydia Lunch who complain about how these new bands have nothing to them. It's a false comparison to begin with and the old timers just come across as cranky.

I first knew Will Oldham (Bonnie 'Prince' Billy) as an actor. He was great as a teenage preacher in John Sayles' movie Matewan.

Just got this email from the YLT mailing list: Hi everybody, especially those of you with tickets to next week's shows, We strive to make our Hanukkah shows unpredictable, and in one unfortunate regard we've outdone ourselves this year. I'm going to be a little vague here, but I had a pretty serious health scare earlier this month. I'm well on the way to recovery, but I've not yet been deemed ready to Rock. The good news is . . . well, the good news is I'm on the way to recovery . . . but vis-à-vis next week, the good news is that I've been deemed ready to sit in a chair and play the

I think the song itself is OK - and there is a very nice solo piano version floating around. But to my ears, the version on the album sounds like bad 1980's adult contemporary rock that would be found on the Miami Vice soundtrack or a Lionel Richie album. I just don't care for the cheesy keyboards, the sax solo, the guitar sound. Given how much I like every other song he has put out as Bon Iver, this song just seems out of place and doesn't work for me.

Good one. I like that album much more than I like anything by Modest Mouse.

Thanks for the heads up. I am a fan of Zhang's films, although I have not seen any of his more recent work.

Beltmann - wow, thanks for recommending this powerful movie. Watched it last night and I am still thinking about it. It was at once both beautiful to watch and horrible to imagine those events.
