"California Stars" at a Qdoba restaurant in Columbia, SC. I was there for about 30 minutes, and other than that wonderful little tune it was nothing but bland and annoying Spanish-language mainstream pop/R&B/dance/hip-hop crap. Tasty burrito, by the way...

Sales spike like crazy when a musical artist dies, especially when he/she dies relatively young and/or is out of the mainstream. It happened with Elliott Smith, Jay Reatard, Warren Zevon, Jay Bennett, Dio, and tons more. Very strange...

Fantastic set list, and one of the few shows in which they didn't play "Corduroy."

Love it. That's two brilliant solo albums in a row, in addition to three consecutive wonderful Boston Spaceship albums (with an EP and new album due soon) and three better-than-usual Circus Devils albums (with another one due next month). Uncle Bob's on a winning streak. His next solo album, Moses on a Snail, is due this summer. Can't wait.

The 2010 release I'm looking forward to the most is Centro-matic's new album, which supposedly is done (or will soon be). There was also lots of talk about a live DVD coming out last autumn, but obviously that didn't happen. This once-prolific band has slowed to a crawl in the last few years. The lack of news is distressing. Even Misra Records is mum on the topic (of course, keeping fans updated about new and upcoming releases has never been their forte). I know Will is busy with side-project stuff (Monsters of Folk tour, some sort of Woody Guthrie thing, and god knows what else). I just hope

REM- Reveal and Around the Sun (unlike a lot of REM fanatics, I think I consider Reveal a worse album than the much-maligned ATS, but they're both stinkers) South San Gabriel- Carlton Chronicles (I realize that this is beloved by many Will Johnson fans, but I just can't get into it) Robert Pollard- Superman Was a Rocker (god bless you, Uncle Bob, but this album is dreadful)

Obviously, Merzbow was the most prolific but not necessarily prolific artist this decade. That goes without saying.

Uncle Bob Pollard gets my vote. But also high on the list would be Dean Wells, who records most of his stuff under the Capstan Shafts moniker. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Capstan_Shafts He gets compared to Pollard quite a bit, but to these ears his songs are far more similar to ex-Guided by Voices guitarist/songwriter Tobin Sprout. His voice, guitar sound, and overall sound are very Sproutish. Lyrically he seems to be Pollardish, but soundwise, not so much. Will Johnson could've been considered if this had been a poll of most prolific artist from 2000-2007. His recording output has sl

Since I'm not wild about the new album's title, I've decided I'm gonna refer to the new album as Camel. This is done in the same spirit as all those Pearl Jam fans who insist on calling their 2006 self-titled album Avocado (due to the cover art). WGAF
