Why allow a state to fund its unnecessary bloated budget by having its constituents voluntarily pay fees for license plates, when instead the state could just raise tax rates and force all people to pay?

It depends on the law. But in this case, it is the responsibility of the state government to properly regulate its elections. And unlike you, I see nothing insidious or burdensome about this particular law. I also agree with MattZ in that there are other ways to prevent voter fraud. But this particular law in Indiana, on its face, does not raise any red flags to me.

For the last week or so, I haven't been able to access viachicago in Firefox. Everytime I do, I get the Apache server page. I've cleared my cache and everything else and cleared up security issues that I thought may have something to do with it, but it's still the same. IE works fine for me on the same computer. What else do I need to do? Thanks.

Unfortunately, the barbecue at Stubb's is nothing to write home about.
