  1. I laid the Christmas album on my fifth grade students the other day in art class. Blew their minds. It was the funniest thing ever. Many of them had the best WTF look ever. I wish I had video taped it. Seriously, it was the first time they all got quiet and listened intently. No one said anything for a minute or two. The went nuts when Must be Santa came on. It was really fun in the art room that day. Many great quotes: Kid #1 "what's wrong with his voice" Kid #2 "Shut up, that's a real man's voice." "Is he okay?" "When is he going to start singing?" (Said after we were
  2. No joke, right? I thought everyone was familiar with it...I am behind on the Avetts. My brother has urged me to get into them for years, but I just didn't. Tell about Yeasayer. Never heard of them.
  3. Sorry! It's the Avett Brothers - I and Love and You NP: Zwan - Mary Star of the Sea
  4. The new one from Beach House and it's way better than their last one.
  5. They annoy me too nowadays. Every time they pop up on the random mode on i-tunes, I switch it. I am just not down with them like I used to be. I love their second and third album but could pretty much live without another album from them for the rest of my life.
  6. You are not alone! That album felt like the very definition of pretension and pompous through and through. Some songs are alright but none are that great. Bloated and void of interest.
  7. New Song - Song for a Son Not too terrible....Actually, I like it quite a bit. More new songs soon. Discuss.

  9. I'm on a huge Wilco kick today. Just downloaded the 3 volumes of the Letters to Santa-thingy. I'm liking a lot. and this too:
  10. You see, I was the opposite of you: I got One Mississippi when it came out, but I can totally dig where you're coming from. I got a Virgin sampler with an Alternative Press magazine back in the day with BB on it. I found a promo copy the next day for a buck. I had given up hope on anything from him. It was as if he fell off the face of the earth. I was on a trip to Chicago in '02 and picked up a local paper and noticed he was playing that night in town, but I already had tickets to another show. Not only that, he had a new album. I was pumped. I sought it out and loved it to death. S
  11. Lapalco has the slight advantage over One Mississippi in my book. I'll have to give his new one a better listen. It always is harder for me to get into an album when I only have a digital copy. I've been scouring the used bin lately but have yet to find his new one.
  12. Man, I cannot get into that Brendan Benson album at all. His last two have hugely disappointed me. I love his first two albums with all of my heart though. NP:
  13. I'm pretty much uncomfortable with any band having a profanity in their name. It's sometimes hard to get past the "fuck" bands profanity-stricken names and get into their music. I even hate it when bands put no-no words on their merch and shirts and such. Hate it.
  14. I really liked the first one and it got played quite a bit around here. My wife really digs her voice. She says it's odd but in a good way.
  15. Good choice. Which one or is it a mix? Got some Barlow going here too. NP: Smash Your Head on the Punk Rock
  16. I'm older than 23, so can I not take this survey?
  17. That's interesting to hear that they've hit a wall creatively and, perhaps, helps put this album in perspective. Maybe it's time for Gillian to carefully curate a covers album or something like that? I suppose that the DRM album is that stop-gag type release. David is a heck of a musician, songwriter and a sideman, but I think this release just goes to show that Gillian is truly the one that should be at the front of their partnership. The album is a nice side track or distraction, but it's not nearly as satisfying as a proper album from them. I think they should have just released a D
