A public thankyou to Jimmy Jimmy for first bringing his name to my attention in the NP thread a few months ago (though I'm assuming that Pancho & Lefty is the song I know from Emmylou), and BBH for the heads up on the box set -

They are apparently supporting the Stones at at least one of their UK concerts. My first toe in the solo Farrar waters. Cheap too.

Ditto. The handiest venue for a fast getaway back to Waterloo. This is very bad news.

Jsut came across this. Haven't seen any mention of it. http://glennkotche.com/press/stn_0606.php "Seven months later, in December 2000, Kotche and his wife went to see Tweedy perform solo at Chicago's Abbey Pub. And hour before the show, Kotche was summoned to play. The two went back to Wilco's recording loft, and gathered what they could. "This is Glenn," Tweedy said when the lights came up. "He wanted to be on the guest list, and he had to pay for it." "I played this whole show...with a drummer who theoretically didn't know any of the material," Tweedy later explained to writer Gr

That is actually very high up in my list of favs. It seems to me to catch them at the very pinnacle of simple effortless brilliance (Revolver being just the other side of that cusp), from the sing-a-longs (the best for my nasal harmonising) to In My Life. Of course there are times when I appreciate more the complexities of following stuff, but this one keeps coming back to entertain.

The one I always end up skimming is The Word (never buy any of them though). I have a soft spot for David Hepworth and Mark Ellen. It's cinema + books as weel as music, but they always seem to have some pieces I like, and a good sense of humour. Because it probably goes for an older age group, it isn't so hung up on appearing trendy. There's some good Keith Richards stories this month - a great one told by Nick Low about when he turned up at a Rockpile show. Dave Edmunds and Richards always used to argue over music apparently. Good for Dave! Oh, and Gimme Shelter (the altamont film) is on BBC4

Ian Dury - New Boots & Panties ---> Some great old favourites Flaming Lips - Soft Bulletin ---> Still to listen Kinks - Village Green Preservation Society (special triple album thing) ---> Uneven Sigur Ros - Agaelis Burjun (spelling?) ---> Nice Gotan Project - La Revancha Del Tango ---> Nice, but not quite as upbeat I wanted Manu Chao - Clandestine ---> Excellent 2 others that I cannot reveal for fear of being ridden out of town!

http://famouspeople.co.uk/p/petercook.html Here it would be hard to remember one without the other, from their great time together as a double act in the late 60s / 70s (before Dudley Moore went off to star in those poor films). Peter Cook was the undoubted genius.
