  1. 1 is Duran Duran - Rio 5 is Echo And The Bunnymen - Songs To Learn And Sing Any brownie points I earn for the latter (God knows how I remembered that - just the shape of the guys neck reminded me of them) are cancelled out by knowledge of the former. I liked New Moon On Monday, but that was about it. I have never owned either, I was just around at the time. I do really like Echo and the Bunnymen though.
  2. I think so, the mismatch with my expectations threw me a bit. Sort of a country Chrissie Hynde, which is a good thing.
  3. I actually got to hear Lucinda Williams the other day. Alot more gutsy than I had imagined.
  4. Yes. Could be interesting then. Maybe as this is a 'big' event they might go for the full backing choir deal for Grace Under Pressure like at Glastonbury a few years back. I 'll try to remember my camera - if only for the nice walk back over Waterloo Bridge afterwards.
  5. That's a shame. Would be a very nice place to catch him. Several very big names use it for showcase/secret sort of gigs. Elbow tomorrow night for me. Know anything about Liam Frost and The Slowdown Family?
  6. Playing here at Somerset House as support to The Lemonheads on Sunday.

  8. Ditto. I am not a food fascist.
  9. One of my favourite sporting memories is watching Nastase play Connors at Bournemouth in a Wimbledon warm up grass court tournement. This must have been in the late 70s. I must have been ill and home from school or something. They were having a lark most of the time, being good friends, and then it started to bucket down with rain. They kept on playing just for the hell of it, with everything getting funnier and funnier as time went by. http://observer.guardian.co.uk/print/0,,49...-103977,00.html
  10. I had a 'coq sportif' track suit years ago, at an age when it provoked sniggers. I think they still kit out the French team. Certainly the most famous French sports brand.
  11. First time I ever clapped eyes on Wilco. It was shown on the BBC years ago. I had interests in Guthrie and BB. Bingo!
  12. Was it still popular when Sampras was playing? My interest waned before that when power became dominant over artistry. Federer has some fantastic strokes I will admit, but just watching McEnroe (post early brat years) or Nastasie doing subtle things with the head of the racket as the shots were played was sublime. And the heads of the rackets were so much smaller! And people like Connors and Nastiasie seemed to have much more fun on court. That's a general change in most sports I suppose.

  14. "The link between France and cockerels stems back to Roman times when France was known as Gaul - which is similar to gallus, the Latin word for cockerel. This play on words meant that over time France came to be represented by a cockerel. In the Middle Ages French coins were engraved with cockerels and the symbol was adopted by the leaders of the French Revolution in 1789. Napoleon introduced the symbol of an eagle but the masses missed their cock and it was duly reintroduced in the 19th century. During World War I the cockerel became a symbol of French courage and readiness to fight to the de
  15. Martina Navratilova does not seem to remember much Czech. But she said "Hello" to me half an hour ago.
  16. I bought the LA album when it first came out. ANGEL COME HOME, LADY LYNDA, SUMAHAMA - all OK for me. And, Here Comes The Night (bom) is so dodgy as to be almost funny. They should have included a free chest wig and medallion with each album.
  17. Well, possibly more understanding of exactly why the red mist descended what with the illness. Still best to have waited until after the final whistle (maybe France having won even better), then laid him out properly. Revenge is a dish best served cold and all that ... "I've got the passion but no idea of tactics - I'd be like a black Kevin Keegan." Ian Wright stakes his claim for the England managers job.
  18. Watt light? Great series of reviews by the way
  19. The usual sign of a bad injury is that the player doesn't wriggle very much. That's what's so farcical about most of it.
  20. Do you refer to Arkansas Traveller? That's a great album. Also the first time I heard a note played made by JT - though I didn't know it at the time. I arrived there via the similar connection to the Hothouse Flowers.
  21. BBC, via Zidane's agent apparently, was saying unspecified comment regarding his mother. Zidane didn't tell his agent exactly what it was. The thing is, he must have had alot of sledging before. You only have to go to a park and watch a pub side to hear all that goes on. Don't know why he would snap with all his experience. Still I say: should have got him in the head. Just once I would like to see an Italian who is actually injured. It might improve the acting skills of the rest of the team to see the real thing first hand.
  22. A piece on his old mucker. On Keith Richards website you can listen to him answering fans questions. Some of the answers are in the expected slurred out there fashion, and quite funny.
