  1. It's just typical of the modern game - can't even hit the head with a head butt. Come back Norman Hunter, Chopper Harris, all is forgiven!
  2. For the Lennon/McCartney songs, and I remember watching her TV shows with affection. It wasn't this one, but something like it, in about 1982. On vinyl for the purists!
  3. Novelist Don DeLillo and rock writer Greil Marcus discuss his enduring mystique
  4. Shopping trip. Always expect the unexpected!
  5. He also owns Spartak Moscow, or one of the Moscow teams. The Chelsea training grown is a couple of miles away from where I live. John Terry has been seen in the local Pizza Express.
  6. It has been known I like the slobby brother (or is it brother in law) - once a great turn on Coronation Street (a dustman lodger of Stan and Hilda Ogden - I have not watched Coronation Street since those days. All soaps are now convoluted incest and murder plots, rather than just a bit of gossip down the Rovers Return). The Ogdens house was just like my grandparents in Grangetown. Clouds of tobacco smoke in the back room, and World of Sport horseracing on the TV. Also, Geoffrey Hughes was the voice of Paul McCartney in Yellow Submarine. Speaking of comedies and soaps. Wendy Richards (the
  7. No, thanks, that's all interesting stuff!
  8. I'm hoping that everyone has seen it by now. It is brilliant.
  9. It has yet to be confirmed to me that in this day and age, professional footballers with testicles are in the majority.
  10. I'd like to see that film (like a series of linked videos covering his songs in English by other artists) "Jacques Brel is alive and well and living in Paris" again one day. Just caught it on TV ages ago and it left an impression. Also need to thank you for the recommendation on
  11. Hope all is well at home Easy going start for me too, though I seem to remember them getting some stick here. Followed by
  12. That makes me think the answer is Cher (Sonny being the goofball sidekick), but that can't be right? Also: my answer: Port Sunlight Horticultural Society - their annual dance saw the first performance of the Fab 4 with Ringo having replaced Pete Best. 18th August 1962. http://magicalbeatletours.com/tour_wirral.htm#hulme
  13. Puts Rooney in the shade - Boris Johnson tackles a German For the uninitiated, Boris Johnson is a Tory MP, a bit of a clown - think Monty Python upper class twit of the year competition - although the fact that he seems genuine, has little time for spin, and actually answers questions with wit and good humour wins him some points with me. He is playing in a charity celebrity/ex-footballers 'Legends' match just before the world cup. Seems like he went to a rugby school. Plus, he never even got a yellow card.
  14. Why has the Port Sunlight Horticultural Society gone down in musical history?
  15. What about Gogol Bordello? I have not heard their stuff, but have read some interviews and they seem to put on a great show? I had said how the Beirut record did not sound authentic to me. Gogol Bordello may be nearer the mark?
  16. Third Stone From the Sun by Jimi Hendrix on the Are You Experienced LP. There are some incoherent 'vocals' at the beginning. If you could play it at 78rpm you would hear Hendrix and Chas Chandler having a short conversation as alien(s) in a spaceship approaching Earth - with phrases something like "calling star ship", etc.
  17. Ronaldo gave Rooney a subtle head butt (i.e. not a real head butt, but enough for an Italian to start rolling on the ground) and some verbals just before the kickoff. Rooney is still an idiot and should know better. Looks like Ronaldo is off to Madrid. I think Rooney would land one on him back at Man Utd. My boss has now taken the England flag down hanging over his desk. I have been remarkably restrained this morning!
  18. Game on! Both teams seem up for it - ref will have to do well to stay in control.
  19. Here's one I heard on a radio equivalent of Nevermind the Buzzcocks the other night:- Chas and Dave appear on Eminem's (first) hit "My Name Is" - since they were session musicians in the 70s playing on the Labi Siffre track that is sampled. Any more for any more?
  20. "treated to and hour and a half" I will not 'ave typos in this jungle, lovely boy!
