He was in both (small cameo in the first), larger part in Stardust. Also Dave Edmunds was in David Essex's 'band' in the second one. The first had more atmosphere, and Ringo was surprisingly good. -

Finally got around to getting this. As long as I mentally filter out a bit of the Knopfler glossy production, I have to say I like most of it alot. Emmylou has rarely sounded better, and it is at least as much her album as his. Definitely Radio 2 territory though
