  1. How do you get those tassles to twirl in opposing directions? Any secrets you can share with a beginner?
  2. Quite possibly You lost me when you mentioned 'fashion section' though
  3. That is actually very high up in my list of favs. It seems to me to catch them at the very pinnacle of simple effortless brilliance (Revolver being just the other side of that cusp), from the sing-a-longs (the best for my nasal harmonising) to In My Life. Of course there are times when I appreciate more the complexities of following stuff, but this one keeps coming back to entertain.
  4. The one I always end up skimming is The Word (never buy any of them though). I have a soft spot for David Hepworth and Mark Ellen. It's cinema + books as weel as music, but they always seem to have some pieces I like, and a good sense of humour. Because it probably goes for an older age group, it isn't so hung up on appearing trendy. There's some good Keith Richards stories this month - a great one told by Nick Low about when he turned up at a Rockpile show. Dave Edmunds and Richards always used to argue over music apparently. Good for Dave! Oh, and Gimme Shelter (the altamont film) is on BBC4
  5. Ian Dury - New Boots & Panties ---> Some great old favourites Flaming Lips - Soft Bulletin ---> Still to listen Kinks - Village Green Preservation Society (special triple album thing) ---> Uneven Sigur Ros - Agaelis Burjun (spelling?) ---> Nice Gotan Project - La Revancha Del Tango ---> Nice, but not quite as upbeat I wanted Manu Chao - Clandestine ---> Excellent 2 others that I cannot reveal for fear of being ridden out of town!
  6. http://famouspeople.co.uk/p/petercook.html Here it would be hard to remember one without the other, from their great time together as a double act in the late 60s / 70s (before Dudley Moore went off to star in those poor films). Peter Cook was the undoubted genius.
  7. You're happy to leave the crown jewels open to manipulation though? I always take precautions
  8. Nice pictures. I saw alot of his stuff in a summer sale yesterday. Someone who I have always had respect for (and like the odd thing I've heard on the radio etc.) but never known where to start.
  9. I've tried to get by with my Dad's old souwester for the past few years. This could be just what I need to keep the buggers at bay
  10. "Either there was a rogue scent of some kind on Mabel which switched on Barney's deepest instincts, or it could have been jealousy - I was just stroking Mabel and saying what a nice little bear she was." and double http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5240832.stm Apparently the insurers had insisted on a security dog because of the value of the items on display. Doh!
  11. This is the weirdest thing I have seen in a very long time. Do you know this sketch? Do you know the late great Peter Cook? (and Alan Bennett is a national treasure). You have to read with Peter Cook's voice
  12. I make do with this double album compilation covering most if not all of that period, I was around when all the originals came out and saw him a couple of times, so it's all sort of in my head anyway. It was on sale here very cheap recently.
  13. Andrew Dowdall I both post and star in porn under my real name.
  14. The man behind the last Amadou & Mariam album. You can hear the similarities in production style on this Latino album
  15.
