  1. In the old days, this sort of move would have caused mass postings of gifs of people riding on penises like a horsie. People got kids and cats and stuff to take care of now.
  2. 'Defense,' in this case, would probably be more accurately stated as 'run prevention.'
  3. Yeah, but he wasn't any good at any of those defensive positions, and was 14th in the AL in OPS. I think he's too high at 8th.
  4. Umm... is dead. Long live Umm... Since we're reminiscing, sometimes I think about the fact that you all got to know me when I was in high school. And I think "Man, you guys are lucky your every thought as a 16-year-old isn't saved on the internet for anyone who cares to find it."
  5. Obviously you know the team better than I do, But I doubt even the new ownership group would have been willing to; A- Spend $200 million plus in one offseason for 5 years of two players, and B- Bump payroll from last year's up to $103 million, with Lee also schedule to make $109 million over the final 4 years of the contract. That's an outrageous amount of money to spend in one offseason. I have my doubts that they sign both in that scenario.
  6. Well, it's probably fair to say that the Rangers at the least don't sign Beltre, and quite possibly are more agressive in moving Young if they did re-sign Lee, so I'm not sure it's a question worth asking.
  7. It certainly sounds like Zambrano will end up down here, but it would require the cubs to assume a fairly substantial amount of cash, I would think.
  8. Oh yeah, he's a boon for sports coverage down here, which is why I get why the Marlins did the deal. They need to make a splash, and Ozzie does that. Also, Venezuelans are the fastest growing Hispanic group in South Florida, and a large portion of them are very wealthy. If he can help the Marlins tap into that demographic, it could be huge. The reason I'm not thrilled is because I don't think managers have a large impact on the game itself, so I don't like trading players for a manager. But given the off field stuff, I get why the Marlins did it.
  9. My team is doing well for a Sun Belt team this year!
  10. Eh. The White Sox definitely got the better Ozzie, but not by much. If he's more than a utility player, they should be thrilled. And Marinez has a huge arm and huge control problems. If he figures it out, he's an 8th inning guy. If not, he's not a major leaguer. I wasn't thrilled about the deal, but I understand why we did it. I don't think either are exactly what would accurately be described as "high upside prospects," though. If there's one thing the Marlins could afford to let go of, it was hard throwing right handed relievers.
  11. John's bass playing over the last three albums has been nothing short of incredible. He doesn't he his due.
  12. My favorite things about this album: Total freakout on "Art of Almost." Total Randy Newman feel on "Capitol City." Total power pop rocking on "Standing O." It's real good.

This guy's right, though. Just wait.
  14. Minnesota is not close to South Florida. It is not close at all!
  15. The average age of our Sports department is probably 37, but there's almost nobody within 13 years of that age, I think, so I definitely know what you're talking about. Luckily, I started working the same week we made an institution-wide change to a new content management and production system, so I learned everything on the fly like everyone else, so I haven't been too out of place. And yeah, picking up new skills is the only way I'm going to survive in this industry. Thankfully, everyone seems really happy with what I've done so far.

  17. Sept. 8, 1995 R.E.M. Featuring Radiohead at the Miami Arena First night of the "Monster" tour. I was 7, so it didn't hit me as it should have, but I was there.
  18. Wilfred is good. Louie is among the best things ever.
  19. My only accomplishment this summer is that I got "promoted" to full time at the Miami Herald, which actually means that instead of just designing pages three days a week, I'll be designing pages three days a week, be in charge of the Sports section of the web site one night a week, and be in charge of the rest of the web site the rest of the week. So it's kind of a lateral move, except I get more hours per week, and I seem to be impressing people with my desire to take the initiative and learn new skills, so that's good. So, between that and moving into a place with just my wife, and learn
  20. I've been all about A Ghost Is Born recently, and this clip has me thinking it may harken back to that type of sound, which would be just swell.
  21. Even without having heard the album, I'm feeling pretty confident that this will be the only way to classify Wilco's albums: AM BT ST YHF AGIB SBS W(TA) TWW Debate all you want. But you know it.
  22. I was at that show at the Carefree in WPB. I was in 8th grade, and it definitely made me a die hard too. They only came to Jacksonville from what I remember during SBS tours; I almost made the drive, but it didn't work out. I'd definitely drive to see them upstate.
