Hank Greenberg was the first player in MLB history to make 100,000 in a season. How does money cheapen the game? If anything, guys are going to play harder (and subsequently, better) if they have more at stake. I don't buy that the game has gotten anything by better as time has gone on, and there's very little doubt in my mind that the best baseball players ever are playing right now.

Tiexiera is arguably the best or 2nd best defensive 1B in baseball, and he's in the 5-7 range in terms of hitting. So yeah, he's worth a lot of money entering his prime. With the Tigers signing Matt Treanor, that gives them like 5 former Marlins. If them and the Mets meet in the WS that'd be like 12 former Marlins in one series.
