  1. If we were getting oil at a cheaper price, I would contemplate that question!
  2. We have also spent billions of dollars building the largest embassy in the world and a few permanant bases in Iraq. Nonetheless, there is not one canidate in the race talking about leaving Iraq. In fact, Iraq has barely been an issue in this campaign, which is exactly how Karl Rove and the Republican party have been drawing it up over the last 2 years. I don't know how many people listen to Tom Hartmanm but he has been warning people about the Republicans controlling the topics in this race and appears that they have been successful once again. Our government is wasting money, but a few c
  3. Ok, so the Democratic primaries will soon be over and it looks as though the guy I was leaning towards, John Edwards, will soon be heading back to North Carolina. Unfortunately, he is the only canidate among the big 3 that has even muttered an idea that I would consider "different" by todays narrow political standards. I have noticed that there are quite a few Obabma supporters here, so I ask you: Why should Obama get my vote? Why are you voting for him? Why not?
  4. Ha! Why do I get the feeling that ESPN, with their need to oversaturate every single aspect of sports, will be discussing this in the morning?
  5. I really dig listening to Can. Hallelujaw (sp?) is a great tune.
  6. I was going to suggest the Sheraton II. I own one and love it. Its great for everything you need and has a great tone, I got mine for around $500 and then payed another $150 to put Gibson '57 pick-ups in it and its been great. I also own a Mexican Fender Tele and the '72 Fender Deluxe and I like the Sheraton the most. You may also want to look into replacing the Epiphones plastic nut with one made of bone for a better tone. I think they run for $20. I'm a poor musician and Epiphones are a god-send!
  7. Get a tuner! That is a strange tuning. Did you get that from a CS&N tune? Crosby was into some wierd tunings. My favorite is "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes": E E E E E B E
  8. In a very roundabout way...exactly!!! The Colts were a great example of that last year. Their D played great in the playoffs, despite having one of the worst run-D's in the regular season. And I guess you can say the same for the Giants O this year: inconsistent during the regular season but they have been playing well through the playoffs. If they can play good D next Sunday and cause a few turnovers, they have a chance to beat the Pats.
  9. Thats very true. My main point in this whole offense/defense discussion is that you can't win the Super Bowl without playing great D. There has never been a team that won the big game by merely outscoring the opponent. It seems that every team that has won the Super Bowl played very good defense in that particular game, and more importantly, caused turnovers. But yes, for the most part you need both to get to the big game.
  10. Thats right. And Henson sucked at baseball! Bats no hit curveball! And as far as the defense wins championships: I think its pretty obvious that you have to play great D to win a Super Bowl where as you don't have to play really great O.
  11. I found the Andre the Giant article: http://www.moderndrunkardmagazine.com/issu...ndre_giant.html http://www.moderndrunkardmagazine.com/issu...ndre_giant.html
  12. 5th ranked running game. Lewis/Holmes rushed for over 2,000 yds that year. 22nd ranked passing game (ahead of the Bengals, Browns, Steelers, Cowboys, Bucs, Falcons, Lions and Bears)
  13. The list is a little longer, but not much different. The good D, bad QB syndrome appears to be a recent trend: 05 Steelers: 15th ranked O. Great running game, controlled passing, young QB. 03 Pats: 17th ranked O. RB by comittee, Brady was still coming along. 02 Bucs: 24th ranked O. Brad Johnson at QB. Very controlled, short passing game. Possesion WR's. 01 Pats: 19th ranked O. Bradys 1st year starting. His job was to not make mistakes. 00 Ravens: 16th. Good running game, horrible passing game. They went a bunch of games without an offensive TD. 90 Giants: 17th. Simms went down in week 11. 81
  14. Give me 15 mins...I'm really bored today!!
  15. There have only been 5 teams in the SB era that have won championships without a top-ten defense: 2006 Colts: ranked 21st, but the D dominated in the playoffs and especially in the SB. 2001 Pats: ranked 16th, made the run by controlling the clock and playing great D in the playoffs.D shut down the #1 O in the NFL in the SB. 1998 Broncos: ranked 11th. Shut down the Falcon's #8 O in the SB. 1987 Skins: ranked 18th, which includes the 3 "scab" games.D featured Manley, Mann and Green. Had the #3 O in the NFL. 1976 Raiders: ranked #18, O ranked #2.
  16. I think that reinforces the old saying: "Offense wins games, defense wins championships"
  17. And if Drew Henson wasn't splitting time between baseball and football, Brady might not have gotten a shot a Michigan. Goes to show you never can tell...
  18. Yes, but he did lose his job. (was it week one? I remember it was against the Jets) There was talk of him starting in the playoffs over Brady because of his experience. He then went on to suck for both the Bills and Cowboys.
  19. If you're really looking to put Wilco in the context of their times, you have to go back to AM, and even before that, and look at the "Alt.Country" or "No Depression" movement of the mid '90's. It never really got into the mainstream, but it was a pretty strong underground movement at the time: Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, The Jayhawks, etc. Since then, Wilco has been a good marker for what has been going on in rock music outside of the mainstream: compare "Summerteeth" to "The Soft Bulletin" by the Flaming Lips, one of the great indie rock records of the '90's, or YHF with Radioheads work a
  20. A freind was at one of Levon Helm's Midnight Rambles in Woodstock over the summer and Fishman and Gordon were there and they told my buddy, who is a big Phish fan, that they had been jamming at Trey's place quite a bit. they did stress that it was just for fun, but it is something.
  21. ...as did Trent Dilfer, Doug Williams, Jay Schroeder, etc... Here is another way of looking at it: 6 QB's that have been drafted #1 overall started in a Super Bowl: Terry Bradshaw (was killed by P-Burgh fans and benched before getting there and winning 4) Jim Plunkett (not for the team that drafted him) John Elway (lost how many Super Bowls before finally winning two in his last 2 years?) Drew Bledsoe (lost his only SB start before losing his job to 6th round pick Brady) Troy Aikman ( a great QB, but only threw over 20 td's in a season 3 times) Peyton Manning (remember when he couldn't wi
  22. After seeing the movie I wondered: Who is the real hero? Moss, who was out to take money that was not his? Ed Tom, who did not complete his job? Chigurgh, who kept his word? In todays fucked up world, Chigurgh was the only one who accomplished what he set out to do. I caould be way, way off base, but when I was walking out the theater, thats what I was contemplating. BTW, I saw the movie at The Alamo Draft House in Austin. You Austinites are lucky SOBS. We have NOTHING like that here in NJ. Also, I am a huge fan of Sean Penn's films. Many people complain that his films are "Slow" but
  23. Does Andre The Giant count as an athelete? I just read an article about him naming him the greatest drunk of all-time. One of the stories in the article talked about him drinking 120 beers in a six hour session! Others I would mention: Mickey Mantle Wade Boggs (or Weed Bags) Max McGee
  24. I'm not a Phish fan, but have been surrounded by them my entire adult life I heard they have been jamming quite a bit.
  25. This is WAY WAY off topic, but seeing this sentence made me wonder: In this day and age of Performance Enhancing Drug-phobia, why isn't anybody linking a 34 year-old having a stroke with the possibility that this guy was doing something? Is it because he's white? Because he's a Patriot? Becuase he is admired? Just a thought...
