  1. I guess the Mets had a gun to their heads, but thats way too many years and a lot of dough. Thats becoming Minya's MO. The big talk here in NY with this deal going down is that Mets are now favorites to win the NL. What do you guys think? IMO, I think its ridiculous, considering the rest of the staff, which could be very good, is filled with more question marks than anything else: Santana- The best pitcher in the league, or on his way down? Martinez- how many games will he win if his fastball is in the high eighties and low ninties like it was when he came back? Maine- his record was goo
  2. I picked this up recently as well. Great live album!
  3. Thats an interesting battle. McPherson was a hughly rated prospect and who knows what happened to Cantu. I thought he was going to become a superstar a few years back. He had such a quick bat. Ensberg could be a good righty bat for the Yanks if he could be even a shadow of his former self.
  4. Gammons and Olney have both been saying this. Thats my backup (or lack thereof)
  5. Really? This was ridiculous? The Giants played this whole season with basically the same team as last year, minus Tiki, rushed for more yards, had a higher ranked offense and made it to the Super Bowl. Most RB's are a dime a dozen if they have a good O-line and decent passing game. Tiki Barber had 3, maybe 4 good years as a starting RB. Before that he was a fumble waiting to happen, and on top of everything, he was a negative influence in the locker room. Before the last game of the year, with the Giants fighting for a playoff spot, he admitted that he no longer studies the playbook at home,
  6. Bob Klapish is the Jason Blair of sports writers, so I wouldn't exactly trust that one. But I think the Yanks were PO'd at theTwins, considering none of the prospects the Twins got from the Mets wold have been considered top 10 prospects (or suspects) in the Yankee system.
  7. Not fast enough, IMO. I used to love Shockey, even used to have my own nickname for him: SHOCK THE HONKY. But I'm just sick of him a)crying everytime a ball is not thrown to him dropping balls thrown to him and c) laughing when he dropped a ball. Not sure what the Giants would get for him, maybe a 3rd or 4th rounder, but I wouldn't mind him being gone. You don't play an NFL game and play soft. You would get killed. If they didn't want to injure starters, you don't play 'em. And they were playing for something: to be 16-0. That game was more important for the Pats then it was for the Gian
  8. It seems to me that making a statement by not voting could, I believe,be the the laziest statement in the history of mankind. Don't like the two party system? Get up off your ass and start organizing a new party. It seems to me from reading this thread that there are plenty of people that would be interested. Don't like the fact that elections are driven by money? Get out and educate people about election reform and come up with a new and better system. If we can all get together and talk about Wilco, I'm sure you can find even more people that feel the same way about politics. If anything, th
  9. This is the a horrible trade for the Twins. Carlos Gomez isn't really that great of a prospect and the Mets couldn't get anybody to bite on Humber last year. He has a losing record in the minors and he's already 25. The funny thing about it: the Mets still suck. Sketchy rotation, no bullpen, no corner outfielders, no proven catcher, Delgado coming off of a bad season, a supposed Super-star SS who dissapeared down the stretch and a second baseman who talents are fading at best. I predict Santana on the 60-day DL by early, July
  10. As a Giant fan, I will say WHO GIVES A SHIT? Tiki was overrated as it is, and was a cancer in the locker room. GOOD RIDDANCE!! My heart: Giants 24-Pats 20 MVP Corey Webster My head: Pats 31-Giants 20 MVP Tom Brady
  11. I was about to say!...he can't sing or play guitar, but he may be the greatest songwriter who has ever put pen to paper. Its certainly debatable. I just read a quote from Cohen where he was talking about the last time he had coffee with Dylan in Paris. they were talking about writing songs and Dylan said he loved the song "Hallelujah" and asked how long it took. Cohen replied "the better part of two years" and Dylan was absolutely shocked. Cohen asked Dylan how long it took to write "I and I" (Infidels) and Dyaln responded "15 minutes". Cohen fell off his chair and Dylan just laughed!
  12. Best show ever. I kind of got that from the 1/2 hour preview show they did before the season started. I can't believe Prop Joe is dead. Is Chris Parlow (sp?) the greatest serial killer in television history? Its nice to see McNulty back to being McNutty, as Bunk calls him from time to time.
  13. Did that case go to the Supreme Court where it was decided that the Nazi's were allowed to March? Anyway, I firmly believe that people have the right to say whatever the hell they want, no matter how hurtful or ignorant the words might be. (sticks and stones....) Once you start drawing lines about what people can say and where, where do you stop? The greatest thing about free speech is that it makes it easier to tell who the assholes are.
  14. 2 BIGGEST SB SPREADS EVER: NYJ vs. Baltimore Colts: opened at 18, closed at 19 1/2 SF 49ers vs. SD Chargers: opened at 17 closed at 18 1/2 The largest opening spread in a NFL game ever (not counting expansion franchises): NE Pats vs. PHI Eagles 2007: 23 1/2
  15. Thats way too big of a spread for the Super Bowl. Does anybody know where that ranks in all-time spreads? I know Super Bowl III was 19 Pts.
  16. What the fuck are the Orioles thing about? I know Jones is a Super-prospect, but Bedard is a proven young left-handed pitcher. Last year, they wouldn't even entertain offers for Daniel Cabrera, who has great stuff but couldn't hit the side of a barn! Baltimore fans, you have my condolences.
  17. That is a fair point. The man is certainly biased against clothing in general! I read that in an article recently and laughed my ass off, thinking about all of the new hipster bands that always list Iggy and The Stooges as a great influence.
  18. It was '94 and they were very good. Jerry came out and jammed with them at Giants Stadium. The NFL Network has been showing the new Tom Petty doc...whats he say towards the end? Oh yeah, something about how corporate sponsorship is killing rock and roll. Way to stick another knife in its back Tom!
  19. "Whats wrong with rock and roll? For starters, all the assholes wearing ties." - Iggy Pop
  20. 1) One person does not a country make. 2) you should read he article that Beltman posted on thre first page of this thread.
  21. Trace is one of my favorite records ever but to me it seems like Jay Farrar ran out of inspiration somewhere along the way.
  22. I'm not referring to any particular indie bands, but being a musician and being out and about in clubs all of the time, I hear a lot of stuff that generally sounds similar, especially in NYC, where the music scene has no heart and is generally trend based: the beats, the guitar tones, the deep voice. When you hear something for the first time, you naturally tend to compare it to something you've heard before and with this album, The Arcade Fire defintely came to mind. That being said, I've recently been in the state of mind where I want to hear something new, something that will just smack me
  23. Thats funny. I had a very similar experience playing a Springsteen tribute show in Asbury Park! I just got this record and listened to it twice so far and I wasn't all that impressed. My first thought was that I've heard this from a lot indie bands as of late, but the jury is still out and I will spin it a few more times.
