What took you so long! Classic albums you just discovered
Mr. Heartbreak replied to remphish1's topic in Someone Else's Song
Oops, I have that, too. I missed it because I have "The Ozzman Cometh" lumped in with my Sabbath folder...thought it was an Ozzy album just looking at the folder name! I should really get hard copies of some of this stuff...so many albums... -
Happy Thanksgiving, Dear VC'ers!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, and to everyone else on the board as well. As someone at Lounge Ax once yelled at Jeff Tweedy, "You rule!" -

Thanks for the recommendation of Sabotage, gang. I only had Paranoid, Black Sabbath, Master of Reality, and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Have never heard Sabotage before. -
Would you consider doing this for a couple of us? I already have the show in SBD quality, but of course it's always nice to get a cleaner copy. Looking for ways to cut back for 2017 and the Dave's sub is #1 on the chopping block.

How about we pray he goes to heaven...sooner rather than later? -
Indeed. But they should, they should. I used to hear (and still do hear) a lot of complaints about the Amalie Arena in Tampa, the hockey rink formerly known as the Ice Palace. It's been nicknamed the Echo Dome. Saw Santana there, sound sucked. Saw Simon and Garfunkel, and it was pretty darn good. Then saw The Dead in 2003 or 2004, and Dylan opened. Sound was beyond awful. Then The Dead came out and opened with Help on the Way, and I've never heard better sound in that shed. Just goes to show you, you need to learn to work within the room, and lots of folks simply don't do it well. It's a sham

Posted a review of DBT in After the Show. How was JJ?

The Tampa Theatre is a beautiful old theatre in a classic ornate style, built in 1926. I got to see Wilco there all the way back in 2002, and it was one of the more memorable shows (and tours) I've seen in my concert history. It's always a treat to see a show there, or even just a movie. It's a real treasure in this city known, unfortunately, as a "tertiary market." Any of you who have already seen DBT know that these guys rock, and I actually don't know their repertoire anywhere near as well as most of you probably do. I've got a bunch of their stuff, but haven't committed the lyrics to mem

In case I forget to log in to VC tomorrow: going to see Drive By Truckers at Tampa Theatre. Fantastic place, built in 1926 and only seats 1,400. Saw Jeff and the boys there in 2002. Always nice to catch a show or even just a movie there.

....Aaaaaaand 2016 sucks even more. At least he made it to almost 90, which is a pretty good run. http://www.npr.org/2016/11/15/502211193/celebrated-jazz-musician-mose-allison-dies-at-89

Bands you saw early on who became big?
Mr. Heartbreak replied to remphish1's topic in Someone Else's Song
Damn, you guys have such cool stories. The only thing I can find in all my concert history that fits this narrative is a band I don't even like: Matchbox 20. I saw them at a festival here in Florida in 1996 where they were pretty much at the bottom of the bill. The other acts included Joan Osborne, Ratdog, and Chris Isaak. Of course, within a year or two, these guys went on to become absolutely huge, but they did nothing for me. -
I was fortunate that I got to see him on the big stage with the Elton John tour. Very moving. As someone said on another thread: screw you, 2016.

I nominate Tammy Duckworth: - Just got elected to the Senate, so she'll have 4 years there under her belt - War hero, shot down in Iraq - Disabled by that attack - Female, but Asian-American, not Caucasian So, she's female, a minority, disabled, a war hero, and a Dem. That should make their pointy little heads explode all over again. Oh, and she has some "Thai blood," so that will make my wife happy. Somebody start a petition.

Oof. I hadn't even thought about that. It got lost in all the racism, xenophobia and misogyny. Yay, apocalypse! -

The polls being so far off, in general, tells me that it was a perfect storm: - Irrational hatred of Hillary, and Bill, too, for that matter (bolstered by "They killed Vince Foster," "They are blood-drinking Satanists," and about a million other nutty conspiracy theories) - The hollowing out of the manufacturing base...see Michael Moore's dire, but correct, prediction that MI would go red - The P.T. Barnum effect, and the plethora of stupid fuckers who will vote for anyone who does all the stuff T did (I can't even bring myself to type his name): chant "USA...USA"...throw out red meat about -

I am sick over this too. It will make it that much easier to become an expatriate when the day comes for my wife and I to move. A very sad day for the country. -
Driving down I-75 in Florida many years ago. Broad daylight, perfect weather. No one else on the road for miles. Started playing around with the radio or some such thing, and was being sloppy about keeping in my lane since I had the road to myself. Drifted too close to the median, and suddenly found myself ON the median, hurtling over surprisingly bumpy grass at 80...70...60...Slowed to a stop, then slowly sped back up and got back on. Okay, no harm done but lesson learned!

HRC will be harassed and obstructed if she gets elected, and that's the best-case scenario. On the other hand, knowing that millions of my fellow citizens voted for Drumpf will make it that much easier for me to become an expat. -

Mr. Heartbreak replied to remphish1's topic in Someone Else's Song
Great album, and definitely a classic by any reasonable standard.I just "discovered" the Mott the Hoople All the Young Dudes album. I'd only heard the title track previously. Some great deep cuts on that one! -

I was out of town one year for an election and voted by absentee ballot. I now get a ballot in my mail for every election automatically, and love voting by mail. It's easy, it's free, I don't have to stand in line, and I can take my time with the ballot and research the candidates and the inevitable amendments before voting on them. If it's an option, I highly recommend it. I sent it out last week. -

Jesus, I forgot about the ex-wife's accusation. I wasn't aware of the middle story. But the account of the woman who was a 13-year-old girl at the time is particularly chilling: That mirror exactly what he says on the tape: "You can do whatever you want." -

Yeah, I meant exactly what Winston said: you guys (GOPers like McCain) were OK with him through everything he's done and said up until this one statement? I don't think his statements on that tape are actual proof that he committed sexual assault, by the way. I've watched it all the way through, twice (because it really is enjoyable seeing him get taken down a peg for being such an asshole), and I'm not seeing it as a confession. He's enough of a douchenozzle to say garbage like that in an effort to "look cool," hence his crappy excuse that it was locker room talk. Now, if a whole shitload
