Getting back into Europe '72 shows again, after taking a detour through some '78 (revisiting Red Rocks after seeing all the hype about the box set), '76 (a show I'd never heard, 6/12 Boston, kind of meh so far except for Mission), and an '80 Warfield show (man, the acoustic sets were so good, but the electric sets haven't made much impression from what I've played so far). Europe '72 shows are just so good. I'm listening to Radio Luxembourg from 5/16 at home, which will be followed by 5/18, a show I have yet to hear, and then the London 4/8 in the car. I'm not a big Dark Star guy unless it's

Holy cow, the comments section for that Ratdog show is hilarious. A few highlights: "It was a groovy liquid fungus filled event." "keller is a gimmick, and his schtick is funny once but gets way old after that. you don't go up on stage with bob weir and pretend to play a trumpet like a goddamn 8 year old does while taking a crap." "The music was amazing and nothing compares to how the music lifted my mood after being busted by red rocks security." "All I can say to describe this unbelievable night is that right after this show I literally almost quit my job, jumped in the car and foll

I see Voldemort didn't waste any time endorsing Drumpf: http://m.cltampa.com/politicalanimal/archives/2016/03/16/rick-scott-endorses-donald-trump-invention-of-time-travel-probably-imminent-now -
Even some of the official releases are mislabeled in iTunes, or not labeled at all. It's a bit of a cluster. I appreciate you guys suggesting some of the Dick's and One from the Vault. I'd skipped right over those, with the exception of Harpur College. I've got about 40 shows in FLAC and a few in MP3 that I have yet to play. A bunch of them are from '69, which can get redundant, but I can't resist. That era is always interesting because sometimes Jerry actually still has some funny banter. Pig too. And the versions of Hard to Handle and Dark Star are great.

Thanks, Shug & worldrecordplayer. Good suggestions. I have about 400 folders of Dead files, and I guess only about 50 or so are official releases. Overwhelming amount of stuff. Listening to 5/7/70 now, another show I'd never heard, as it's overshadowed by the next night...another favorite.

Listened to Boy in the car for the first time in quite a while, and surprised how poorly it's aged. I guess that early 80s production is largely to blame, but seems like they were a much better, more professional band by the time The Unforgettable Fire came out. Weird experience.

Single gunshot wound to the head, likely a suicide from reports. Very sad.

Hey fanatics: which shows or releases (Dick's Picks, etc.) do you consider absolute must-haves? Like, "If it disappeared from my hard drive and I couldn't ever find a replacement, I'd be devastated." The reason I ask is because I recently had to completely replace my operating system, and am now tasked with going in and manually adding all my stuff back into iTunes. I just can't sort through all of it, especially since I have so many artists. I don't have the time to pull everything I can fit that's archived on my external hard drive. With the Dead, I put in a few essential studio albums,

I must be the only one who likes the early versions of Touch better. I saw them do it at my first show, and it seemed right that way. I never liked the studio version, especially Brent's treacly keyboard part, which I felt ruined the song.

Interesting article on my man Neal Casal and his involvement with the Dead: http://www.jambase.com/article/circling-in-on-neal-casal

Wow. So fucking sad.Gail guarded that shit for over 20 years like a grieving spider while it slowly rotted. What a waste. Glad these guys are interested in it, but fuck a documentary; we want to hear the tapes!

Beats the alternative, though, right? The ones that hit me the hardest: Zappa Jerry Warren Zevon Syd Barrett

I've been diving into some of that Capitol '71 run this weekend too: partway through 2/20 now, and have 2/23 on deck. Never heard them before.

Wait...whaaaaaaat?

I skip pretty much every Drums>Space. There, I said it. Another reason I prefer 70s to 80s.

Nah, he'll never be anywhere near broke. According to celebritynetworth.com, Zimmy is worth $180 million. Here's an update on the archive story, with some slightly different info: http://pitchfork.com/news/63901-bob-dylan-secret-archives-to-be-displayed-in-tulsa/

I wish I had your confidence.Current national polls show Sanders beating Trump in a general election, but Trump beating Hillary. It's downright incredible. I'm not saying it's impossible for her to win, but people who hate the Clintons seem to have a visceral hatred for them...especially for her. She might hobble into the White House, but the next 8 months are gonna be ugly. -
Although Jerry's decline was the most obvious in the 80s, and Phil was apparently having drinking problems from what we now know, I wonder WTF was up with Bob in the 80s. Too much blow? I can't help thinking he really didn't have much confidence in his own songs, based on the number of covers: You mentioned a bunch, and that doesn't even cover Good Lovin', It's All Over Now, Around and Around, Wang Dang Doodle, not to mention the cringeworthy "I'm gonna fuck with your hen" stuff Brent added to Little Red Rooster. Ugh. What happened to Black-Throated Wind? I can't even listen to the Bobby &

I must admit, I laughed out loud at that description of the interview. I saw most of my shows between 82-84, when Garcia was in dire straits, but I thought the shows were all great. Didn't really have anything to compare them to, of course...and I was somewhat impaired myself at all of those, so... Listening to all the Dead shows I've downloaded over the years but haven't gotten to yet...I've got about 50 or 60 of them, I think, ranging from a shitload of '69 shows all the way up through a handful of '80s shows. Working through the 3/28/72 show, which I think is the last American show of t

The 269-269 split is always an interesting prospect to contemplate...but I doubt the Rs can pull off a clean sweep of VA, PA, OH, and both Carolinas. -
