  1. Oh, they will. In most cases, I would agree with you, but Scalia's many racist and homophobic statements, and his death penalty fetish, did actual harm to real people. He wasn't just some right wing d-bag like Ted Nugent; he was a Supreme Court Justice.
  2. So, I've always preferred the '72 China>Riders to any other era. Which ones from '73-'74 would you fanatics recommend as the best?
  3. Before we totally move on from Scalia: http://www.salon.com/2016/02/19/in_defense_of_grave_dancing_its_true_that_scalia_was_a_human_being_but_i_still_refuse_to_mourn_a_holes_like_him_politely
  4. Maybe Scalia had a sudden attack of decency and killed himself.
  5. Let's let the man speak for himself rather than try to whitewash the past: http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2013/03/scalia-worst-things-said-written-about-homosexuality-court Frankly, he seemed to enjoy being an asshole, and would probably have thanked me for calling him such.
  6. Perhaps I misspoke: "racist turd" would be more specific. http://www.nbcnews.com/news/nbcblk/justice-scalia-under-fire-comments-about-black-students-n478681 I wish Hunter S. Thompson were still alive to write an obituary for him. As far as I'm concerned, he was a vile pig without a shred of empathy for the common man, who sided with the rich over the poor and with corporations over people. The fact that he was a Supreme Court Justice makes it much, much worse. I don't base my assessment on some vague feeling but on his many repugnant statements. I remain unrepentant in my criticism. If he were
  7. Just read that Scalia croaked. May I be the first to say, "RIP, you POS."
  8. This is killing me. Cheers to those of you who got to see them do it.
  9. Oddly enough, I listened to this entire show over a couple days just last week. My CDs of it are kind of old, and the Samson kicked in somewhere after the first notes. Otherwise, I don't think I missed anything. It's a barn burner, though I must admit my attention flagged during Franklin's. One of my favorite Help>Slip combos, though, maybe second only to the Vault release from '75. Worth owning. Started listening to the 30 trips show from '74, which I believe is 9/18. So far, it's very solid. I think it's better than Dave's latest pick.
  10. The thing with the subscription for Dave's is that I'll get all 4 shows + bonus disc for $100, which is not bad: $25/show total. If I don't get the subscription, and try to buy a la carte, there are two issues with that: 1) I will have to pay $30+ for each show I buy that way, and if I end up feeling compelled to get all 4 for the year, I've screwed myself. 2) If they release one I really want, like a super show from, say, '71 or '72, it might sell out in 24 hours, and then I'm screwed in a different way. I just don't have time to be constantly checking that board each quarter when the rel
  11. I keep hoping for some material previously unreleased/unavailable in HQ...like the returned Mountain Girl tapes. Secondary hope is that I'll get a nice HQ show I have never heard. I have not heard anywhere near all their shows! I did download a bunch of SBDs that came out on the big 30 Trips box, just to see what I missed. Still working my way through those.
  12. My reaction to the new pick: underwhelmed. I already had a copy of the SBD on my iTunes, but had only listened to it once...not a great sign. The Scarlet is wonderful, the Row Jimmy is nice, and the WRS is very good, but not much else stands out. I feel that most of these shows don't really justify a full show release.
  13. Okay, I just want to go on record saying I'm not too thrilled with 2016 so far. Sheesh. R.I.P.

  15. Wow, WTF is going on? He was only 67, too. I know a few people on here truly hate the Eagles (which is kind of weird to me...apathy about them, I can understand, but not hate). Hopefully, those folks will not comment inappropriately on this.
  16. Elton John paid tribute to Bowie in his show last night. Man, old Elton's voice may be shot, but he can still play like hell. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/elton-john-honors-david-bowie-duets-with-demi-lovato-at-intimate-l-a-gig-20160114?page=2
  17. Yes, exactly. Yet they froze him out of the HoF ceremony. He eventually went on to tragically die at his own hand.
  18. I wish they'd been better. I really like Surrender, I Want You, Dream Police...My friend Todd saw them with me, and he'd seen them another time already, probably 4 years ago. He said that show sucked also. It's a shame.
  19. Indeed. Fleetwood Mac is another prime example. Their treatment of Bob Welch was despicable.
  20. Yep. My favorite versions of that song are all from '72, especially 7/18 & 8/27, but '71 had a few great ones. The tempo is not too hurried, as it always would be after they resurrected it, and Jerry's playing is some of his finest, IMHO. Just got 4/8/72 in the mail, a show I have never heard. Looking forward to digging into that over the next few days.
