Wilco — 7/3/15, Scottsdale, AZ (Salt River Fields at Talking Stick)
Mr. Heartbreak replied to bböp's topic in After The Show
Buddy of mine from high school was at this show. He and I saw the Dead in '83 and Roger Waters in '84. Small world. -
Nope. There's no hypocrisy here. I haven't had a drink or a drug in over 26 years. If someone is socially drinking - not falling down drunk and being a pest - it doesn't have any effect on me. There is no smoke inhalation involved. Pretty simple. Although I dislike the smell of pot intensely, and don't smoke cigarettes or pot myself, I am not for prohibiting anyone from doing what they want to do to have a good time, so long as it doesn't cause a murder. I was merely commenting on my own personal experience, which was that it was pretty fucking annoying. Kudos to the people who found a plac

Yep, I could really have used one of those. That, and a gas mask. For all the folks insisting on the inevitability of getting smoked out at rock concerts, here is some of my experience in recent years: Wilco - 3 shows in 2015, all around 2,500-5,000, no smoke Paul McCartney - 2014, capacity crowd of 15,000, no smoke Lady Antebellum - 2014, capacity crowd of 10,000, no smoke Chris Robinson Brotherhood - 2014, small show, 1,500 or so, but not even any smoke for those stoners Elton John - 2014, capacity crowd of 10,000+ and no smoke Billy Joel - 2014, capacity crowd of 20,000, no smoke Dylan/

The rain really exacerbated the pot and cig smoke problem. I wear glasses and can't see distance without them. If they get wet, I can't see either. I can't take them off and rub them on my shirt to dry them, because that makes it worse. So I had to keep them dry by pulling my poncho hood up. Every time a cloud of pot smoke hit me in the face while the hood was up, it was like getting a hit shotgun-style (oh yes, I remember those days). So yeah, I had to work very fucking hard to ignore this stuff and get what enjoyment I could out of the shows. I guess it would have been better farther back,

Here's a news flash: it's not 1974 anymore. Lots of people (including Jeff T) have sobered up and don't feel compelled to get baked at 2 in the afternoon. I have been going to concerts for over 35 years, so it's not that I need to "get out more." As is apparent from other posters here, I was not the only one who found the cumulative effects of people's behavior diminished the experience.

If anything, I would expect to be less overwhelmed by it at outdoor shows. But it was downright pervasive. Day and night. Don't recall that ever happening at any of the Wilco shows I've seen.

So now that I'm back in Florida and have had a good night's sleep and some time to reflect, I guess I'll finally chime in with my experience. First, the good: it was great to finally meet kidsmoke and to see bobdylansbeard again after running into him in St. Aug. Also met jcamp on Friday afternoon. Good to meet a few VCers. The performance Friday night was great, but Saturday was outstanding. I especially loved hearing songs live that I had never caught in person before, including Let's Not Get Carried Away and Be Not So Fearful. The Sunday p.m. Tweedy show was a personal highlight for me, a

I was impressed. Never a big fan (not that crazy about his voice), but he rocked pretty hard. His old stuff in the 60s and 70s was kind of mellow. Interesting that he has turned into more of a rocker over the years.

I just watched the pro shot versions of Bucket and Alabama on YouTube on my phone while waiting to catch a flight. Trey ignoring Bobby was the highlight for me. Possibly the most plodding version of Bucket ever played. Props to Trey for bringing the energy level up.

I believe you. Glad I hit Solid Sound instead of paying for this.

That was miserably wet and a little bit cold, too, but it freaking rocked. -
Looking for some fun folks to hang with at SS.

Shoot me a PM. My wife and I are driving up tomorrow. -
Spent much of the day doing job search and networking stuff. Being out of a job for the first time in 20 years feels weird.

Been thinking about this topic, and I'm going to have to go with Relatively Clean Rivers. I really wish there was more...I really, really do. -

Trump is lower than a turd. A truly reprehensible human being. However, when it comes to douchenozzles with giant egos, Ben Carson should be put right down there with the Trumpster. Where do these people come off to have the nerve to think they are qualified for President of the United States when they have never held a single political office? I mean, I get why a lot of Americans don't like so called "career politicians," but don't you think a person should have some kind of experience holding an office - any office - before running for the position of most powerful person in the world!? How

Come on, people, you got to put it in order. That's why it's called the "impossible" list! -
I was curious because I found a SBD show of them on a download site I frequently peruse. Thought, "Hmm, might be worth a listen." Looks like they did a fair amount of old blues covers...kinda like Zep!

Just look for an Asian girl. I'll be the dude with her. Remember the old expression? "Whiter than a Wilco concert."
