  2. In that case, I will join the Facebook group, look for the VC table, meet as many of you as I can, and hand out business cards with my cell # on them...anything to avoid having to put on a name tag!
  3. This might not be the right place to post it, but I wondered what people think of The Firm? (Also, I didn't want to start a separate thread about a band I don't really know at all.) Is their material interesting, worth checking out? Or is it that "lost in the 80s" syndrome that happened to so many artists that made it big in the 60s-70s?
  4. Same here. I am hopeful that the VCer table that kidsmoke mentioned will yield some meetups. Not sure how it will work for my wife and me, as we are not staying in town...but we will be at the festival for all three days, so it would be nice to get together and meet some folks.

  8. Interesting comments section in that article. Interesting, because it's all on Facebook, so people are (more or less) using their real identities to comment, and there are several people who state confidently that Graham is, in fact, gay...and that it is well-known in S.C. and among "insiders," etc. Funny how this stuff would be utterly uninteresting if he were out, but it's fascinating because there is such a lack of empirical evidence. I guess there must be a lot of anecdotal stuff, but I am not sure I care to search for that. I figure he's about as likely to be elected President as Ben Cars
  9. That has to be the coolest thing I have ever read about Beefheart. Wow.
  10. You know he's dead, right? Pretty sure he's not going to be reading your post.
  11. As if on cue, I was reading these comments and the alternate version of Tangled Up in Blue from Blood on the Tapes came up on my iTunes shuffle at work. Weird. So he drifted down to L.A. Where he reckoned he’d try his luck Working for a while in an airplane plant Loading cargo onto a truck
  12. I wrote such a long personal response, I forgot to include one point regarding the issue of buying Dylan or Springsteen CDs. I can't recommend Dylan's Blood on the Tracks strongly enough. Not only is it a top ten Dylan album (probably top 3 for me), it's also probably his most cohesive statement as an artist: thematically and musically, it hangs together more as a work of art than any other of his classic records, in my opinion. There are plenty of classic Dylan albums, and they have plenty of incredible songs, but there's nothing like Blood on the Tracks.

  15. Interesting topic. I have seen it come up in the past somewhere on VC, but not really addressed with so many thoughtful responses. I think part of it is burnout, but also part of it is the combination of adult responsibilities and plain old maturity. I find that a lot of times these days, if someone asks me if I'm "excited" about something coming up, I say I am looking forward to it. Maybe when I was 30 I would have been excited, but now I'm just looking forward to it...perhaps even eagerly, but using the word "excited" or "excitement" would be a real stretch. This is true for all kinds of t

  22. Damn, I just read that in the other thread. I'm sure I'll see some of the other acts (Thompson, Real Estate, Parquet, etc.), but Taj was among my top priorities. Bummer.
  23. Honestly, my #1 priority at SS, other than seeing Wilco and Tweedy, is to meet up with some of you wonderful VCers! But okay, here is my reasoning for my choices: Charles Lloyd - I am a big jazz fanatic, and Lloyd is a legend I have never seen. No further motivation needed. King Sunny Ade - Sounds like a feel-good musical act; my wife might like him, too, which is a huge plus. Taj Mahal - Another legend, and have never seen him before. Almost bought tickets to a show of his last year, but they were too pricey. NRBQ - New England stalwarts with at least two "hits" that I heard on the radio wh
