Opening acts that blew away headliners

I would love to have caught this show. I could have worn my paisley cravat. -
Got my copy in the CD player in my car. Definitely a top-tier show. Anyone have any of the other ones I mentioned? Still open to suggestions...

So, which Europe '72 show should I buy next? I don't actually have that many, but could never afford to buy the entire trunk. I can only get one here, one there. I already owned versions of 4/14, 5/25 & 5/26, and I have the official E72 releases of 4/16 and 5/11. Thinking of one getting one of the following: 5/23 (Strand #1) 4/26 (Frankfurt) 5/3 (Olympia #1) 4/8 (Wembley #2) 4/11 (Newcastle) Decisions, decisions...

Thanks for the tip o' the cap! I honestly can't think of an example besides the one I mentioned in the other thread. Wilco opening for Natalie Merchant...I love Natalie, but wow...must have been a come down for people hearing her after a Wilco show. She is good but mellow... -
Well, 89 is a pretty good run...especially when you factor in diabetes and obesity. But it's always hard to see any of the greats go. Unfortunately for me, I never got to see him in his prime. I caught B.B. once, and it was about 4 or 5 years ago. He talked more than he sang, barely played the guitar. When he did, it sounded great, and the band behind him would crank it up...but then he would lapse right back into another rambling story. It was kind of sad. Buddy Guy was the opener that night, and really should have been the headliner. He was high octane from the get-go, and totally blew a

Damn, I hope not. I sorta like them, too. -

Well, the thread is not called "A song you like from a band that pretty much does absolutely nothing for you," but I figured it was still kinda relevant. -

Good point on Journey! I didn't count the pre-Perry stuff. To me, it's not even the same band. They really did rock before Stevie-boy came along and turned them into the schlock-rock dream of every 1980s teenage girl. I don't actually hate The Clash, but I figured that would make a few heads explode. Punk does nothing for me. Never did, never will. I suppose if I were a 14-year-old British boy, I would think they were really cool, but nope. I actually did sit through London Calling after seeing it get such critical acclaim, but it was really intolerable to me. Put me in mind of Tinseltown Re -

I don't mind. If the place is loaded with girls, that would be great.

I wouldn't go so far as to say "like," but I can tolerate Wheel in the Sky by Journey. Everything else they did makes me want to throat punch Steve Perry repeatedly. -
I'll take a whack at it. 5 - (1969) The Osmonds? I have no idea. 10 - (1974) Elton John/Steve Miller/Grand Funk/Paul McCartney/Harry Chapin 15 - (1979) KISS/Van Halen/Zappa/Pink Floyd/Doors/Beatles/Stones 20 - (1984) Grateful Dead/Dylan/Zappa/Bruce Cockburn/Brian Eno/Roxy Music/Talking Heads 25 - (1989) Bruce Cockburn/Phil Ochs/Muddy Waters/Howlin' Wolf/Warren Zevon/Airplane/Joni Mitchell 30 - (1994) Bruce Cockburn/John Coltrane/Miles Davis/Billie Holiday 35 - (1999) Wilco/Uncle Tupelo/Blue Mountain/Neal Casal 40 - (2004) Wilco/Warren Zevon/John Coltrane/Jonatha Brooke/Opal/Ken

I also like the title track, Nothingsevergonna... and ELT, too. I mean, come on, the entire ELT forum was named after that song!

Well, today is the anniversary of one of the greatest Dead shows of all time (possibly even greater than the fabled 5/8/77 show)...I'm talking about the show played on 5/11/72 at a place called Grote Zaal De Doelen, Rotterdam, Holland in the middle of the Dead's amazing Europe run. http://bozosandbolos.blogspot.com/2012/05/51172-rotterdam-morning-dew-baseball.html Hmm, not too shabby praise there. I just might have to break this out later.
