Wowwwww. Great show. I wish I could have caught that one. Probably my favorite ever Eyes of the World, and that's just one highlight. Still, if I could go back in time to Roosevelt Stadium, it would be two years earlier for the 7/18/72 show. Love that one.

That clown car is getting a bit crowded: https://www.yahoo.com/politics/rick-perry-announces-presidential-bid-yahoo-news-120696142921.html Jon Stewart is going to have a field day with this.

It's a good read. Productivity is overrated.

Yep. The speculation on the dead.net site was that Dave was "giddy" because a bunch of Betty boards had been returned. Turns out he was giddy because they are selling a $700 box.
-
I'm still a little surprised that there hasn't been another '77 box out this year - containing Cornell - or a box that highlights Betty boards in particular. There was much speculation on dead.net about a so-called "Betty's Box" (a rather unfortunate name, but that is a whole other conversation). I would probably spring for either of those unless the price was out of control. As for the big 30 shows box, I have never been so glad to not buy something. I was sorely tempted to buy one, burn what I want from it, and list it on Amazon...but so many people had major issues just doing the cc purch

I believe that people deduced which shows would be on the big box because of the info listed on the smaller set on iTunes. I went home last night and checked to see which of these shows I already had in some format, either on my iMac or external HD. Not a lot of familiar sounding dates, other than the Dream Bowl show and Lindley. I was absolutely amazed to find that I already owned (or had easy access to) mp3 files of the 69, 72, 73, 74, 75, 77, 78, 79, 83, 85 and 87 shows...possibly a couple others. If anyone wants a link to a site that has zip folders of some of these shows - and many othe

Shortest Distance/Longest distance for a Wilco/Jeff show?
Mr. Heartbreak replied to remphish1's topic in Just A Fan
I actually "only" caught 3 of the 4, but my wife thought I was nuts to do that. I couldn't justify the WPB festival show even to myself. It was a helluva week though! I was happy for you that you got to catch the St. Aug show for free. That might have been the best of the run. -
Shortest Distance/Longest distance for a Wilco/Jeff show?
Mr. Heartbreak replied to remphish1's topic in Just A Fan
Shortest: 14 miles to the Tampa Theatre and the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center Longest: Was 490 miles to Atlanta; now it will be 1,292 miles to Solid Sound! Of course, that's not Wilco only, but still... -
5 Fave Songs from a Fave Band

I'm kind of glad they're doing this, too. I can resist the temptation to spend $ I don't have, knowing that all 30 years are represented. If they did another primo 70s box like '72 or '73 or '77, I might have already clicked on "Add to Cart."
-
Not even sure I could sell my wife on this as an investment (buy it, burn the tunes I want, resell on Amazon or Ebay). I figure it will go quick...but I also figure they will weenie out and make it available as individual shows like they did with E72. Tough call.

Yikes. Someone on dead.net posted:

There are plenty of reasons to be against Lindsey Graham, his sexuality being the least of them. What do people think of Bernie's candidacy? My first reaction is, "Snowball, meet Hell." He says plenty of things with which I happen to agree, but as Jon Stewart recently pointed out, Americans are too used to a polished, prepackaged, focus-grouped candidate to take a guy like Sanders seriously as a candidate. We can probably thank Reagan and Clinton for that. The last time someone as unconventional-looking (I'm trying to be kind) as Sanders had a shot was Mike Dukakis. And we all know how that

Here we agree to disagree: I find the entire Vince Welnick era to be pretty much unlistenable. I might be able to extract an occasional Bobby tune I could tolerate...but not likely. The keys ruin it for me, even when Jerry is silent. I wrote a long post about it back on May 5th on this thread. I even tried listening to that version of Jerry singing To Lay Me Down in 1990 at MSG, but I thought it was absolutely awful. Could not get through the song. Although I can't stand them, I'm glad that people find something to like in these eras. But believe me when I tell ya, I do NOT feel like I am mi

I can't speak to the absolute nadir of the band, but I have heard/read some things about 1995 that make me stay away from everything during that era. Although the late 80s post-coma period was something of a comeback for the band musically - and they even reached their greatest commercial success by far with Touch of Grey, moving from coliseums to stadiums - Jerry's vocal decline had really started in the early 80s, and never stopped. From '85 on, it was a precipitous decline. Now, the only Dead shows I ever saw with Jerry were from '82-'84, with one exception in '91. After that, I was done

I see CRB is also covering Big River, which I suppose is typically thought of as a "Bobby song" too.

Got ours today too. Glad to have them well in advance.

It's much, much worse on zappa.com. Don't even get me started... With the Dead shows, you're pretty much paying for the actual artifact, including individualized liner notes, artwork, etc...per show, that is. If you get the Dave's Picks subscription early, you can get it with free shipping for $100. So it works out to $25 per Pick, plus the bonus disc. Not at all a bad deal, IMO, because if you don't like a Pick, you can always resell it on Ebay or Amazon and get your $ back.

Very cool idea. I should do this too. It might gain me a couple more Twitter followers too, although that's not the motive!
-
That actually does bring up a question for me: if there are 8K to 10K there (or even a few less), just how "amplified" is the Friday acoustic set going to be? When they did the hootenanny-style thing at the shows I attended recently, it was not loud at all, and that was right in front of the stage. I imagine it would be hard to hear if you're, say, 50 or 60 rows back. What do you all think?

iTunes might not have 'em, but the last 3 Strand shows are available at dead.net: http://www.dead.net/store/1970s/europe-72-strand-lyceum-london-england-5241972 http://www.dead.net/store/1970s/europe-72-strand-lyceum-london-england-5251972 http://www.dead.net/store/1970s/europe-72-strand-lyceum-london-england-5261972

I keep looking at the Stones tickets available for the Orlando show, but no way I can pull the trigger. I have never seen 'em, but there is a part of me that says that ship has sailed. The prices are just ungodly: $87.00 for a nosebleed seat, and they're going to play what, 20 songs (two of them shitty ones). If I had the dough, I'd be there on the floor ($424 for that one), but I have to put my $ into my business now. Oh well. Have fun, anyone who is going to catch them on this tour. Wouldn't mind a report here...

I was not aware of this. Cool! So that's one song he plays that I would associate w/Bob. Of course, BEW and TLEO I would associate w/Jer.
-
I think Chris Robinson would be an exception. He clearly likes the Dead. The CRB has been covering all sorts of tunes for a while, ranging from Mr. Charlie to West L.A. Fadeaway to Bertha, and even Dylan songs associated with the Jerry band, like Tough Mama. Although I guess I would say he doesn't seem to be a fan of Bobby tunes, since he doesn't play those.

So, based on that Casino Queen sample, it looks like the Indiana show will be the next Roadcase release? The logo is there, but the complete show is not in the Kung Fu store yet. Hmm.
