Oh, sweetie, you are missing so much!

I can't begin to do a "best of", but I'm loving Joe Henry's "Civilians", The Everybodyfields' "Nothing Is Okay", Johnathan Rice's "Further North", Patrick Park's "Everyone's In Everyone", and Mendoza Line's "30 Year Low". I know I'm neglecting some incredible stuff. These are just off the top of my head.

It would definitely make things like this more possible and affordable! Aw well, such is life.

Yowza! Thanks, Susan! We really are a bunch of pretty spoiled fans, with opportunities like this. I probably can't be there, but those of you who can, go for it. It promises to be a hoot! Hmmm, maybe some very creative financing is in order..... That's the day before my birthday, which would make it like a birthday gift.....to myself..... What would we be without wishful thinking?

I think the first person to mail should get an extra present from the old elf with the glittery snowflake tears, don't you?

Mine has been mailed!

Don't you Aussies make sacrifices for fashion?

Hmm, I'll bet the "hand-knitted purse" is a typo too. It's probably supposed to be "pants", hand-knitted pants. Even the guys would bid then! I'm sorry, this is how rumors get started. Just ignore me. But, hand-knitted pants! With knit-in guitar strings! Who wouldn't bid?

The Mitch Hedberg line keeps running through my head: "Rice is great for when you're hungry for 2000 of something."

I have loved just reading this thread. Your choices of favorite lines bring back so many jaw-droppingly wonderful songs.

Happy Birthday Llynn, and Happy Birthday gtr plyr! Cake all around!!! You deserve all the sweet things that come your way, especially if cake and ice cream are involved. Enjoy, birthday babies!!

I want HIS Christmas recipes..... And yep, I pretty much agree. My favorite part of Thanksgiving (besides family) is leftovers. Somehow everything just tastes so much more delicious a day or two later!

Happy Birthday, AWATT. As soon as I find enough candles, your cake is ready.....if I can just keep everybody else from poking their fingers in the frosting! YOU! Put that back!!! Have a great day & a great year! Hurry up and enjoy your cake before there's nothing left of it!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JENNA! Meeting you and Brad was a wonderful event, and I hope we'll get another chance to see each other soon. In honor of your birthday, I went into the local bakery, and just yelled out, "Sooooooooo-eeeeeeeee!!!" Happily, instead of finding myself escorted out by security personnel, the baker nodded sagely, and brought out....... this! Hope you enjoy it! I think it's piggerrific. (Is so a word.)

Maudie, I'm so sorry to have missed your day, but any excuse to celebrate you is good enough! Love and my very fondest wishes to one of VC's finest! Here's cake, a bit late but presented with love! Okay if I call you Betty?

Well, I'm late, but what else is new? Still, cake is definitely in order, as well as wishes for a wonderful, magical new year of life. Hope you both like virtual cheescake. I'm sorry, but the real one is staying at my house for Thanksgiving. -
Me neither, Loretta.

Poppydawn, I'm no fan of sweet potatoes, but this sounds delicious. I'm going to try it. Thank you! I love being inspired by other cooks on this board.

The Pre-Thanksgiving Giving-of-Thanks Thread

I was thinking the same....this soft sweet face totally draws me in & makes me wish I could read her thoughts. What a beauty! -
I love it!

As I do all my pre-cooking and shopping, I've been thinking about the foods that define this day for my family.....the special dishes without which it just wouldn't feel like Thanksgiving. Tom would be very unhappy without our family's very special, tweaked to perfection version of green bean casserole. Brennan has to have the giant vat of homemade mashed potatoes, again specially doctored with special ingredients. For Alissa, it's all about the pies, and olives stuck on each finger. For me, it's very basic.....I can't imagine having a ham on Thanksgiving, or prime rib, or whatever, even tho
