  1. Which song do you figure will be the poppiest? I'm going with Normal American Kids.
  2. Ah, the drone. Fun to turn up a bit loud at stoplights while driving, to share with other drivers. Or maybe it was just my response to the relentless car boom boxes that were everywhere then, thumping through neighborhoods so loud that you couldn't hear yourself think. The drone sounded mellow by comparison.
  3. Chickens scratching in a yard always seem so content. I wish i lived where I could keep a few. Reminds me of the old joke about the car pulled over for apparent drunk driving, but when the patrolman approaches there's no driver. In reply to his question, one of the drunks calls out, "Weren't none of us driving, ossifer, we were all in the back seat playing cards!" Ok well it's funnier when it's told right. And also when it doesn't describe your country going off the rails.
  4. I think you are exactly right as to his motives. I thought that was a strange inclusion too, but then their entire roster of speakers has been pretty bizarre. Maybe she was included because they needed another female to "appeal to the women voters"? Yes, funny that Cruz took his own sweet time not endorsing The Donald.
  5. Wow, that got dark fast. I don't see that at all myself. Can't a guy be a bit grouchy about some daily stuff without it meaning he's breaking up the band? This seems to come up every now and again. So far it's been nothing but a rumor among fans. I think the band is in a super happy place right now.
  6. Ok, here are the new song titles: Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is this: choose a song* (*Excepting the 2 that we've heard, "Locator" and "If I Ever Was A Child"). Now, tell us how you envision that song. Go into detail, from your imagination. Does "Nope" strike you as a brash, kickass "I'm a Wheel" sort of song? Or is it more along the lines of a gorgeous, yearning thing that reminds of "She's a Jar"? Wheel or Jar? Or nothing like either? What does your imagination say, from the titles alone? Go ahead and weigh in with your speculations! The real fun will begin when we ac
  7. Well, this is the most respect I've ever felt for Ted Cruz. Which, granted, is not saying much. But his statement of "Vote your conscience" took some genuine courage in the face of the rabid Trumpers at the RNC. Let's not forget that Trump stated that Ted's dad was involved in JFK's assassination. Did The Orange One really expect an endorsement? As for Chris "Lapdog" Christie, I didn't think I could possible admire him less, but it turns out I can, and do. What a Trump patsy.
  8. I guess somebody had to say it!
  9. Unless we are all still underestimating just how far they will go to win the "Hungry for Power Games". Did they honestly think no one would notice??!
  10. I think you're right that it is less about the party than the cult of personality.
  11. I thought since our political thread has gotten so massive, it might be easier to discuss what we're seeing and feeling and thinking about the RNC in a separate dedicated thread. I know everyone has strong feelings about this election, so please try to keep your posts as civil as you can manage. My own thoughts? It all seems so surreal. An episode of "Who Wants to be a President?" where all the questions can be diverted by chanting, USA! USA!
  12. If there are jackets, how far away can Schmilco really be?
  13. I'm calling it first...."If I Ever Was a Child" sounds like pure summer glory and clouds piled high against a too-bright blue sky. Come to think of it, Star Wars was a summer gift, as Schmilco will apparently be too!
  14. "And I cry/ like a windowpane".....this is already stuck in my head! Serve it up, dear Wilcos, you know patience has never been our strong suit!
  15. I'm ready for a new batch! Any time, Wilco!
  16. I love Sky Blue Sky! Great choice for Summer!
  17. I'm seeing Parker Millsap in a great little club tonight! I haven't had a chance to see him before, but I know his reputation for a terrific live act. Can't wait!
  18. Ooh, good call on Mt. Bed! The sort of story that only happens in warm weather! "Muzzle of Bees is pure summer too. Makes me think of a roadtrip. Dagwave, Joe's Field does seem to draw the extremes of weather, doesn't it?!
  19. I was thinking about this last night as we had a summer BBQ and maybe annoyed the neighbors (a little) with a bitty stash of leftover fireworks...not super-noisy types...on a gorgeous summer night. What Wilco songs seem the most summery to you? Which tunes evoke the cloaking heat, the lazy buzz of insects, the scents and colors of ripening fruits and vegetables, the lazy I-can-get-to-it-a-bit-later attitude that goes with comfortable lawn furniture or a hammock? Or the cheerful abandon of long, late summer nights at a club? Maybe the most obvious is "Heavy Metal Drummer". When I hear t
  20. I like it. Tweedy is nothing if not true to his conscience, and I admire that in him, and in how it comes through in the music.
  21. I agree! They are fun movies.
