  1. I watched this just last night. Absolutely perfect. I hate Carlos Mencia, and it's pretty awesome to see him owned like that. Rogan actually is now no longer allowed to perform at the Comedy Store because of this. And his agent (who is also Mencia's agent) dropped him. I'd say it was worth it.
  2. Sure, that's what the song is about. But they didn't use the song, they used a portion of the song that sounded good alongside the images they were using, and it worked (IMO).
  3. Speaking of great singers, Chris Cornell has finally liberated himself from Audioslave. Hopefully solo album #2 will be as solid as the first one was. That Audioslave shit was getting pretty tiresome.
  4. Me too. Very good use of that song.
  5. Robert Bradley can sing his ass off, although sometimes he sounds sort of slurred, as if he's drunk. Also, everything since their second album has been bad, although that's not because of his singing.
  6. My number 1 is definately The Velvet Underground & Nico, but there are quite a few right behind it (London Calling, Wild Gift, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, Bee Thousand).
  7. Is artistic integrity automatically comprimised when a song is used in a commercial? What if the commercial is done in a thoughtful, artistic way? True, there is very little truly artistic advertising right now, but hypothetically speaking. What about Jack White's Coca-Cola commercial? It's a pretty good tune, written specifically for the commercial (and not directly about the product). Is something like that different than Iggy selling a 30 year old song?
  8. I came to this board specifically to post his name, figuring that no one else probably had yet. Nice choice.
  9. Cool. It actually looks like a pretty good cake, although maybe the candy should have been unwrapped.
  10. Yeah, I always thought that it was weird that Jeff Beck influenced exactly 200 guitarists.
  11. Sorry 'bout that. A friend of mine sent out a mass email today in reference to another friend's birthday and that pic was attached. I just couldn't help it. I mean, unless you are old and have a small dick. Then that cake is all yours, buddy.
  12. Comedy often makes its point by exaggerating it a whole lot.
  13. At this point I'm pretty pleased with myself for resisting listening to the new stuff. All I've heard from the list above is "Walken" and the solo version of "What Light". The SBS release is gonna be way more exciting than AGIB was for me. Although I'm sure after I've had the album for a few weeks, I'll be clammoring to collect all these earlier live versions floating around.
  14. Happy birthday! Here, have some cake.
  15. Supposedly when Frusciante cleaned up, he spent a few years playing guitar 15 hours a day. Flea has said that music replaced drugs as an addiction for him. I could see it. His playing improves remarkably with every new RHCP release. And as far as his writing goes, he's also incredibly prolific as a solo artist. Puts out several albums a year sometimes. The guitar work on his solo albums isn't as fancy, but when you listen to them it makes it more clear exactly what his contributions are to RHCP's songwriting is. His solo stuff has been pretty diverse, but for the most part has shown a
  16. Worst song in a commercial = that horrible re-make of "I Walk the Line" for the Levis(?) commercials.
  17. Wouldn't surprise me if Coachella makes them agree not to play any other shows in the area within a certain time right around the festival.
  18. Frusciante has been known for 15 years now, although there's no doubt that he's had some big breakthroughs in his playing in the last couple of years. Adam Jones isn't exactly brand new either. He's also the least talented musician in that band, although that isn't really a knock considering how talented they all are. And the Radiohead guys have been known for a while too, and I think have been pretty widely acknowledged for their skills since probably their second album.
  19. I remember seeing Iggy interviewed about one of the commercials that used "Lust for Life" (as for a while, it seemed as though it was in every other commercial on TV). He basically said that, well, it's an old song, and his fans already have the things that they associate the song with. Fans who have a history with the song will not have it changed by a commercial. But the commercial did provide him with a little bit more financial security, and has the potential to introduce the song and the rest of his music to a new audience, and that's not a bad thing. In general, I feel uncomfortable
  20. The most inappropriate use of a song in a commercial ever (IMO) is when "Heroin" was in that Nissan ad a couple years ago. My favorite song ever, but I have no idea why anyone would want that song associated with their product. Granted, it was just an instrumental passage, and most people wouldn't recognize it, but still, odd choice. The most disappointed I ever was in hearing a song in a commercial was "London Calling" for Jaguar.
