Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a riot no matter who wins the election. Lots of people are going to think it was rigged if McCain wins, and a lot of other people will think the country will fall apart of Obama wins. Neither is representative of either candidate's supporters as a whole, but it doesn't take that many people to cause big problems.

Yeah, he almost seemed more prepared for this than for the debate.

Was Kerry only excluded for being a Catholic who is pro-choice? Because otherwise I'm not sure why Obama wouldn't have been excluded for being pro-choice as well. I guess in 1996 Clinton wasn't invited because he vetoed a bill outlawing late-term abortion. Mondale opted out of appearing at it in order to prepare for the election, but Reagan appeared without him, and Reagan and Carter both did it 4 years earlier. Truman and Clinton are the only Presidents since 1945 who have not appeared at the dinner at least once. The 2000 dinner is where the famous clip of W. saying “This is an impres

It has nothing to do with agreement or disagreement. He does those puff interviews with 95% of people he interviews. It has to do with a personal slight.

Part 2 of Obama's is up, by the way:

Is McCain's speech online? I didn't see it.

I'm sure this is a hard loss for the Rays, but I think the TBS guys are overstating it a bit. The way they're talking, it's as if everyone will be surprised if the Rays even show up for the next game because they're so heartbroken. I don't know if they'll win the next game, but if they don't, it will probably be because the Red Sox are a really good team and it's easy to lose 2 in a row to them, not necessarily because they're still feeling dejected from this one. Also, I LOL'd at Craig Sager asking Dan Wheeler about the Ortiz homerun, apparently not realizing that it was Grant Balfour g

Pretty sure that run should still be earned. The official call on Youk getting on base was a single where he advanced to second on the error. Since he didn't get on base or score on the error (just advanced a base) I think that should still be considered an earned run.

This is a very good baseball game.

Obama was really funny, though I kind of feel as though perhaps a lot of it isn't really meant for the TV audience as they're not really jokes he'd make on the campaign trail. Here it is, though I expect it to be taken off of YouTube soon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwwjPnnvK40

The guy that wrote this article was wrong.

It's completely up to the team. They can award rings to anyone and everyone that they choose to, and they can decide by any method that they want. They could give a ring to a guy who wasn't on the team at all this year if they wanted to.

The ACORN stuff isn't a big concern because simply put this type of fraud cannot sway an election. It just isn't far reaching enough, especially since it was done not by people intending to commit voter fraud (which is not the same as voter registration fraud) but by people who were trying to make some extra money by filling out some extra forms.. Certainly anyone who committed voter registration fraud should pay whatever legal price there is to pay for such a thing, but the reason you're not seeing the concern is that it just isn't that big of a deal in the grand scheme of the election.
-
The question over his voter registration has been cleared up -- Joe is his middle name, not his first name, and that's why they couldn't find him. I saw him being interviewed on MSNBC earlier this morning (lord help me, I really hope I find a job soon) and based on what he said, I do doubt he's really undecided (he railed against Social Security and people who suggest that America isn't perfect), so the whole centrist undecided voter angle is probably bullshit, but he's a real guy. Do you know anything about ACORN other than the McCain talking points? I hate to make such an accusation,

Yeah, I think the deal is about as closed as it could be at this point, which is to say that Obama has a pretty solid lead in most national polls and is opening leads in some key states, but we're still a few weeks out and things could change. I can't imagine a scenerio in which Obama could be expected to be leading by more than he is.

We can all get along. I happen to be a big fan of both versions -- I watch the US version more but that's really only because there are a lot more episodes. Both are brilliant in their own way. -
Couldn't they just shorten the unbearable Jeanne Zalasko/Kevin Kennedy pre-game show?

In McCain's book, he says that relations between he and the Reagans got icy after McCain's ex-wife went to work for Nancy Reagan, so in their particular case it is personal, not political.

Isn't it time for a new election thread?!

I don't think there's anything wrong with saying you probably wouldn't vote for a particular party. Sure, candidates differ, but it is perfectly reasonable to reject a party's platform. Of course it's good to never say never -- it's perfectly possible that the Republican party's platform could change drastically and that they'll actually nominate some uncorrupt intelligent candidates. But basing it on today's Republican party, which is controlled by the neocons and the Religious right, and with empty vessels like George W. Bush and Sarah Palin among the party leaders, it's just really hard
