  1. How many times have we seen this kind of story in the past? You would think he would have avoided the cliched 'junkie rock star' scenario after seeing the hell his dad suffered AND caused. Addiction is a cruel mistress.
  2. Wilco --- Magazine Called Sunset The Raconteurs --- Broken Boy Soldier (live in Sheffield) Van Morrison --- Blue Money Bruce Springsteen --- My Best was Never Good Enough (live in San Jose , 10-26-1996) Steely Dan --- Midnight Cruiser Alejandro Escovedo --- 13 Years Bruce Springsteen --- Take 'em as They Come Foo Fighters --- Stacked Actors Neil Young and Crazy Horse --- Love and Only Loved (Live) Bob Dylan --- High Water
  3. Feeling superior to others makes the world go round The irony gets really rich and thick around here at times
  4. There is s certain mad genius to Metal Machine Music. Not everybody's cup of tea for sure, but there is a certain (if we believe Reed's subsequent statements about it) accidental genuis feel to it. It is as least as imaginative a realease as Neil Young's ARC but more daring as it was well beyond anything that had ever been attempted.
  5. I meant exactly what I said. Neil has been given a free pass for the last 20 years. Ragged Glory and Greendale extended his credibility; but he is more iconic than relevant.
  6. Well...it's been 17 years for Jeff and Jay. I don't think either are particularly interested in any reunion. They are really in very different places musically these days.
  7. Very good stuff showing up on youtube these days http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fd-1zwWYGKU
  8. Neil is more a legend than an artist these days
  9. Yeah...and he didn't tour behind it. Therefore the Nebraska songs played on the Born in the USA tour were new songs.
  10. The Darkness Tour was epic. Springsteen went into that tour as a media darling and came out on the other side as an icon.
  11. While the graffiti is cute, I hope that Michael sobers up before he kills himself or some innocent bystander.
  12. This is one of the reasons why I am such an adherent in the cult of Bruce. The time: 1984. He is a couple of months into the epic, legend in the making, Born in the USA tour. He is at the cusp of mega stardom. And he plays 15 new songs in a concert stop in Austin. BORN IN THE USA OUT IN THE STREET DARLINGTON COUNTY ATLANTIC CITY JOHNNY 99 REASON TO BELIEVE NEBRASKA MANSION ON THE HILL JOHNNY BYE BYE PROVE IT ALL NIGHT GLORY DAYS THE PROMISED LAND MY HOMETOWN BADLANDS THUNDER ROAD COVER ME DANCING IN THE DARK HUNGRY HEART CADILLAC RANCH DOWNBOUND TRAIN I'M ON FIRE STOLEN CAR PINK CADILLAC B
  13. You think this place is bad, you should have been on the AOL Sringsteen board in the mid to late 90's. I cut my teeth in obsessive online behavior there. I think the internet has been both a disaster and a boon for music. Things are now much more widely available and get more exposure than was ever even dreamed of in the 60's, 70's and 80's. This, however, has somehow removed the specialness of music. It's ease of access has led to much of music being taken for granted. And as for concerts, if you follow a band online, there are NEVER any real surprises at concerts. A new, techno arrangeme
  14. I like to hear a nice mix of the past and the present. Until recently, Bruce Springsteen had been a master of mixing old fan favorites with new tunes. On this last tour, he became akin to the geezers touring the sheds for sumer festivals playing only one or two songs from his new record.

  16. Some just majorly burnt a bag of microwave popcorn on the second floor of my building. It set off the building fire alarm. Good times...
  17. The age old conundrum of art. Does it belong to the artist or the viewer, reader or viewer. One the work is produce and SOLD, the artist cannot demand that we accept their vision. There's a certain air of arrogance to the artist's arguement: It's MY work and I will control how you consume it. If you don't want your art consumed and enjoyed by people you don't like or respect, they do it in your garage/loft/garrett. Don't sell your work and demand that it be interpreted along the lines of your vision.
  18. What an ugly opening weekend. Eagle, Cowboys and Colts really shit the bed this weekend.
  19. You're looking for something that simply isn't there.
  20. Oh yeah...Mr. Integrity. Psh. Lou is a whore just like Pete Townsend. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tKaYrgy5F0
  21. Lou sounds like he's being petty. What's Susan Boyle's crime? Being somewhat less than attractive? Being overweight? Daring to sing on television? It would be nice if people would get over themselves.
  22. When I was a teenager, I used to have the following albums on the stereo changer every night... George Harrison Side 1 Disc 1 ALL THINGS MUST PASS Paul McCartney and Wings Side 1 BAND ON THE RUN Rod Stewart Side 2 NEVER A DULL MOMENT Pink Floyd Side 1 WISH YOU WERE HERE Bruce Springsteen Side 1 BORN TO RUN This was about a little over an hour and a half of music and would lull me off to the land of winken, blinken and nod
  23. Why no Mozart? His sense of melody makes even his most obscure work appealing.
