  1. I dropped of my daughter, my oldest child (Magic K) at Texas A&M yesterday. Actually, Downtown, D-man and I move her stuff into her dorm room. It is certainly a gutcheck taking the first squid off to college. I am feeling sad, nostalgic, excited and proud. She is very excited and seems more motivated and happy than she has been in a year or so. She had a tough time her senior year in high school. But everything has fallen into place for her perfectly from getting into school (rather easily), getting into a new student mentoring program, getting into her first choice for her dorm, gett
  2. I knew if I left this thread open long enough, this old warhorse statement would make an appearance. Almost as sure as Godwin's law will come into play soon.
  3. After all this is America. You shouldn't be surprised.
  4. Even though I am farily jaded and cynical, I'll be damned if I don't tear up when I hear it. It always stirkes me that it ends in a question. O! say can you see by the dawn's early light What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming. Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming. And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
  5. I think he's checking out her tramp stamp (i.e., her lower back tattoo).
  6. I really like the song. However, it does sound like two dissimilar songs cobbled together... This seems to be the new Wilco style (kind of like the way other bands use the soft/loud/soft/loud format).
  7. I like this...i wanna play again World's End ...and all is well
  8. MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Isaac Hayes, the pioneering singer, songwriter and musician whose relentless "Theme From Shaft" won Academy and Grammy awards, died Sunday, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office said. He was 65. A family member found Hayes unresponsive near a treadmill and he was pronounced dead about an hour later at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, according to the sheriff's office. The cause of death was not immediately known. In the early 1970s, Hayes laid the groundwork for disco, for what became known as urban-contemporary music and for romantic crooners like Barry White. And he was r

  11. Georgia says Russian aircraft bombed its air bases By MUSA SADULAYEV, Associated Press Writer DZHAVA, Georgia - Russia sent columns of tanks and reportedly bombed Georgian air bases Friday after Georgia launched a military offensive to retake the breakaway province of South Ossetia, threatening to ignite a broader conflict. Hundreds of civilians were reported dead in the worst outbreak of hostilities since the province won de facto independence in a war against Georgia that ended in 1992. Witnesses said the South Ossetian capital of Tskhinvali was devastated. "I saw bodies lying
  12. Hubris. You gotta think he thought nobody would ever find out about it. And while his wife was battling cancer. Edwards admits to affair, denies fathering child WASHINGTON - Former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards on Friday admitted to an extramarital affair while his wife was battling cancer. He denied fathering the woman's daughter. Edwards told ABC News that he lied repeatedly about the affair with a 42-year-old woman but said that he didn't love her. He said he has not taken a paternity test but knows he isn't the father because of the timing of the affair and the
  13. I am speechless. I can't believe this. You guys are making light of rape and murder? Seriously? I can't believe that you guys are stooping to such a level for some internet guffaws. What's next? Holocaust Jokes? Some good ethnic cleansing humor? Unbelievable.
  14. Focusing on malaprops instead of focusing on policy. The media panders to the lowest common denominator. It's not about informing and analyzing, it's about selling baked beans, hamburgers, deodorant and cars.
  15. This board has been the source of two of the most egregiously jawdropping posts EVER in the last week: Bob Dylan's Blood on the Tracks overrated? Neil Young overrated? Sweet Fancy Moses. Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop drinking.
  16. I remeber this kind of 'empirical study' about press coverage for Reagan being torn to bits in a Graduate School statistics class.
  17. The guilty undertaker sighs, The lonesome organ grinder cries, The silver saxophones say I should refuse you. The cracked bells and washed-out horns Blow into my face with scorn, But it's not that way, I wasn't born to lose you. I want you, I want you, I want you so bad, Honey, I want you. The drunken politician leaps Upon the street where mothers weep And the saviors who are fast asleep, They wait for you. And I wait for them to interrupt Me drinkin' from my broken cup And ask me to Open up the gate for you. I want you, I want you, I want you so bad, Honey, I want you. Now all my father
