  1. My local station only showed the AF show twice, instead re-running the Wilco show about 4 times this week. Nothing against the Wilco show - it was great, but damn you TWC! Made my DVR miss AF rocking the house!
  2. sweet jheebus YES!! trevor - websense hates your link
  3. Thank you thank you for posting that link! I think I just fell in love with them again. That was fantastic. The energy was tremendous!
  4. DVR'd it 3 times. All 3 times it was Wilco, despite being labeled Arcade Fire on the cable listing. I already have the Wilco show saved. Phooey!
  5. Sin City. I've sat through worse, but not much worse. After Frodo killed a guy, I'd had it. Looked at the wife and she just got up and left. I went with her.
  6. Major Matthew Sweet kick today. Listening to 3 albums back to back. NP: May I just say that Falling is one of his really underrated tracks. I've never actually met anyone who likes that song, but I love how well he nails the mood on it and sustains it throughout the track. Or, maybe it's just Richard Lloyd's contribution. Also, I Wanted To Tell You, on Girlfriend, is another underrated gem.
  7. Thanks for all the replies. I'll call the theater and ask. Dad is 61. Dunno if he'll do a live show. His wife HATES Dylan, which is kinda funny. I should get him tix to one of those shows just to stir the pot. Thanks again.
  8. Shot in the dark, but do any of you live in/near Naperville? Pops lives in Naper-vegas, and I wanna get him tix/passes to see I'm Not There, but I don't know which theater in town is most likely to show it. It's supposed to be limited release. Anyway, he lives on the NW side of town, if that helps any. Gonna bundle them with a copy of No Direction Home.
  9. Minor. I couldn't hack it as an English major.
  10. :shudder: :involuntary spasm: "intents and purposes"
  11. I'm not digging it as much as BSB+A either. The first track sounds like Counting Crows with a dash of Win Butler, but I don't mean that to be flattering. Unless It's Kicks is pretty damn good though. Some of the slower songs aren't bad either. Of course, No Key, No Plan, is one of my favorite tracks of theirs. So what do I know?
  12. what's with the damn ellipses? Do you have that many unfinished thoughts? Drugs are not the cause of a tortured soul or great music. They're just an unhealthy escapist vehicle those types turn to when the music isn't enough. You're totalling borking the causal relationship with an unsupported correlation.
  13. Well said. Another ES fan here. I got into him circa '96. Tried to see him in 2000 but missed the show (long story). Thought I'd have another chance. I used to post sparingly on Sweet Addy but gave it up about 6 mos after he died. It got really petty on there. Charlie seemed like a great guy though. I have the photo of Buckley & Smith at the same show, but no mentions or photos of Tweedy and Smith crossing paths. It's weird who these guys like/respect though. Elliott reportedly showed up for a Radiohead show, but left after Supergrass opened cause that's who he came to see. Think
  14. I'm a bit down lately, so, a standby: Iron & Wine - The Trapeze Swinger. and right now pretty much occupies every stray thought I have. It's definitely approaching obsession level. FWIW, that one cuts off. is also excellent.
  15. I need to get Okkervil River & this is the first I've heard of that Earlimart record. Is it any good?
  16. The new blonde redhead album is really solid. And I've just about worn Asobi Seksu's "Thursday" out on my mp3 player, if such a thing can be done. The end of that one is so strong, it just begs for repeat listens.
  17. I saw that yesterday. There really is nothing left to say. It's just more of the same. The only thing we can do at this point is wait for his term to end. But he's pretty much done irreparable damage to the checks and balances of the system. Whoever is elected will just exploit the doors he opened. There's no going back.
  18. Thank you thank you thank you for posting this. Doctor Blind is... wow Emily is... :swoon: The mood of that song, with her vocal delivery... it's almost tangible. Complete immersion. The only hesitation I have in calling it brilliant is that it sounds disturbingly familiar, especially after the guitar comes in near the end. I can't place it though. A little help?
  19. Okay, I have absolutely hated Art Brut since I first heard them, and I thought they're new single was shyte until it suddenly clicked for me yesterday, so it's on heavy rotation on my Ipod: Art Brut - Direct Hit (confirmed that it rocks hard) The video still reeks though. Also, a friend of mind has me listening to Archer Prewitt, specifically: Another Peace of Mind. Great mellow out song.
  20. I don't like the title track. Is the rest of the album better?
  21. Embarassed that I know this, but that line actually refers to two bands/musicians. "put on a little dylan, sitting on a fence" refers to Bob, and to Dillon Fence, a regional indie pop band that Hootie used to tour with. They weren't too bad. A bit bland and frat rockish at times, but not as bad as Hootie was. And that would have been a great line if Darius Rucker didn't follow it up with self congratulations.
  22. Knew there was a reason I like you. I feel old, and sad. I have about 20 hours of live video footage - concerts, festivals, etc. He is one of the most mesmerizing singers of all time. It's not just his voice. Watch his face when he sang. The emotion, the power, the naked raw energy.... It was incredible. My wife says it differently: "he's like the anti-John Mayer... soooo hot; so sexy behind the mic." That probably works too.
  23. DOH. I suck @ teh intarweb. Thanks for the link.
  24. Gonna see her show in a couple weeks and am about to pick this up. Does anyone have it yet? Thoughts?
