A good sound notwithstanding, liner notes and information will always be a selling point for me. I loves me a well written essay, some unseen photographs, and knowing who played bass on track 3.

It has been my experience that some home burned CDs do have a limited life.

I really dig the sound of the bass on this Autumn Defense clip but I am unfamilair with it. It reminds me of a Hofner Club bass but I'm almost certain it's not. Best shots are at 0:40, 1:19,....ah just watch the clip. It's a great song! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h72IUSsXq1w EDIT: It's a Gibson. A brief, slightly unfocussed shot of the headstock right near the end of the clip afforded me a glimpse of the logo. But any pointers to its model would still be appreciated. Thanks. EDIT: OK, a little research goes a long way. It's a Gibson Triumph Bass. Launched in 1971. http://www.f

The Robert Shelton book is great and I will often go back to it to read up on a particular era or album. His analysis of the 1965-66 output is particularly in depth from memory. I also really enjoyed this when I read it some years ago: A great snapshot of his upward trajectory in the early years of the 60s when he was quite young and how intertwined he was with the Baez circle. The book is just as much about Baez and her sister Mimi Farina, and her husband Richard Farina, as it is about Dylan himself.

I think everyone's got different ways of "feeling" the music. Just because it's not showing outwardly doesn't mean he's not feeling it. I love watching Pat play. His style is relaxed and flowing and he plays with such ease and grace. I also really enjoy Nels' playing but, man, I tense up a lot when I watch him as he's getting toward the end of an Impossible Germany solo. No wonder he needs to ice his neck constantly.

Agree here on a number of points. Spotify appeals to the ADHD in me and I find myself skipping from artist to artist and never fully following through on an album from start to finish. So yesterday I decided to put on Disc 1 of the Complete Basement Tapes and really listen to it. Man, what a record. I'm with you on computers as well. I'll get off as soon as I finish this post! I think there'll always be a place and a market (no matter how dwindling) for CDs. I went to a 20-something pub the other night (I'm 43) for a work event and all I heard was Bowie, Smiths, Red Hot Chili Peppers. Ever

I remember that - the Bob Dylan Tape Library. They did audio, too. They were very generous. In the days before youtube I desperately wanted to see Eat The Document and Renaldo and Clara so I sent the blank VHS tapes and they duly came back (no small thing as this was between the USA and Australia). They would sometimes put more stuff on at the end of the tape if there was any room left. So unexpectedly I found the John Hammond TV Special (1975 I think...around the time of "Desire") tacked onto the end of my copy of Eat The Document. I still have those tapes.

I've been listening to this fairly constantly since I bought it: Plus:

Yeah, they're like that. Pure, beautiful writing. Now reading: The last time I read Jane Austen was 25 years ago in high school (Pride and Prejudice). I wanted to try another one. A few chapters in and I'm enjoying it.

Yes, a lot of the Another Self Portrait material was wonderful.

I've been hoping for this one! This has just made my day. Byron Bay Bluesfest have just announced it. Now we've gotta hope for some side shows around the country. http://ripitup.com.au/music/bluesfest-release-star-studded-second-announcement#.VgIw7pegyQd

Clever. I would not even begin to know how to do that. Hoping for John but happy with Pat.

Bjorn is the only one who vaguely looks like he wants to be there.

Thanks for the link. I could watch him drum for a lot longer than that clip went for.

I've been thinking the same thing for a few weeks now.

For the second time...

Thank you for this link. It's great to see them in such an intimate setting. -
Nicely said.

Yeah, I just listened to that, too. Very much enjoyed it.
