If I had a sealed butcher cover, I wouldn't open it. Actually, I'd look into selling it. Other than that, everything gets played.
-
Anyone who does that is a fucking idiot.
-
Awesome. If I gave that to someone, I'd be kind of pissed off if they gave Santa the credit.
-
I got one for Home Depot and one for a local restaurant chain.

Mother in law gave me $100 Amazon credit. Cashed it in on this with $24 to spare:

My thoughs exactly, on all counts. I went through an obsessive Coltrane phase in the '90s, and as a result I have a lot of his Impulse albums on 180 gram. They sound fantastic, but they aren't significantly better sounding than his Impulse abums I own that are on normal vinyl. Maybe if I spent $1000 (or shit, even $500, which is twice what my best turntable cost) on a turntable the sound quality would be significantly better, but I'd rather suffer with a level of sound quality that is 100% acceptable to me and spend the money on other things.

I agree. Huge shocker! The record industry is making yet another giant, money losing mistake.
-
Maybe, maybe not. I don't know. But if vinyl were cheaper, there would definitely be a real resurgence. Most people who spend $30 on one LP would be happy to spend $30 and get three LPs. The whole "vinyl sounds beter than cds" argument has existed far longer than the current 180 gram audiophile quality virgin vinyl with grooves so spread out that only three songs fit per side craze. I think audiophile quality pressings as the norm is severley holding back the sales potential of new LPs.

Highly Praised Music Artists That Don't Do a Thing for You

Is this because he is actually better than them on their instruments, or because he pays them to keep it simple so he can really shine when he gets to take over their instrument? -
I wouldn't give them credit for Nirvana's success, either, but GNR's massive success definitely changed some attitudes in record label boardrooms, creating a more favorable environment for grittier rock bands. This is a pattern that has happened repeatedly throughout the history of the music business.

Back when this stuff was the rage, there would be groups of young males all over downtown Atlanta harmonizing together. I found it annoying at the time (not the people doing it, but the music they were singing), but now I wish that kind of thing still happened. I sometimes wonder how much more or less of an impact Nirvana would have had if Guns n' Roses had not come along and proven that there was a market for unpolished rock bands. On one hand, Nirvana's impact might have been more extreme, but on the other hand, they may not have been taken seriously by label execs. and remained somewh

For that price, I'd complete my collection. I come across at least one of those titles in the used bins probably every other time I go to the record store. $10 sounds great to me. I wouldn't pay more than $15 for any of them, new or used.

joyce asshole. Perfect fake name for a surprise Wilco show.

I'll grant you that. Of the many artists who (still) put on great shows, I can't think of any, aside from Prince, who do so by running around the stage with the energy of a ten year old. -
I'd put Pavement, Guided By Voices and Dungen in my favorites. Wilco would probably be on the list, if I could have heard them over all the loud conversations.

Maybe they just aren't good at giving gifts. Some people have a knack for that sort of thing and some people are clueless.
-
It doesn't take any thought at all to give someone a box of candy as a gift. I got a rubic's cube this year. I already have one, and it's in my box of stuff to sell at my yard sale as soon as the weather gets warmer. Now I'm sort of in a moral quandary.

What current Christmas TV Commercials Drive You Crazy?

Can someone define "hipster" for me? -
Oh, yeah. That's annoying. Especially in cases like Bowie's stuff, in which the current versions are far inferior to the previous version. They seem to be correcting that now with deluxe versions of some of his albums.
-
Completely sincere. It's your money, and I'm glad you feel it's being spent wisely. I have no idea what insanity you're referring to or what The Rock Curse means.
-
They are where I live. Maybe not new releases on audiophile vinyl, but I don't need that. To me, more music is more important than pristine audio quality. For $70 I could buy Miles Davis's entire catalog of '60 quintet releases (new/sealed), and walk out with change in my pocket. That's a far better deal than any single Wilco album.

I'm glad you feel like you got a good deal.
