  1. Coming out April 13. From Nels' website: http://www.nelscline.com/news.html THE NELS CLINE SINGERS - "Initiate" (Cryptogramophone 2 CD set) Recorded in Berkeley (Fantasy Studios) and San Francisco (Cafe Du Nord), this is a heapin' helpin' of The Singers: a studio and a 'live' disc. The studio disc sees us moving into some decidedly different terrain. I actually use my voice (wordlessly) on some tracks, Devin plays bass guitar... All hell has broken loose! Produced by David Breskin and recorded and mixed by Ron St. Germain, this is either the most friendly Singers recording to date or t
  2. Hell yes! That'll be a happy (5 days early) birthday to me. Are they taking pre-orders yet?
  3. It Might Get Loud. The scene where Jimmy Page listens to Link Wray's "Rumble" is the most genuinely joyful thing I've seen in a long time. Anvil: The Story of Anvil. I'm not convinced this is real. Not that their story isn't believable, but several aspects of the film suggest "HOAX" to me. Idiocracy. I'm one of the lucky few who saw this masterpiece in the movie theater. It was on Comedy Central last night, and I had to turn it off because the editing/censoring was so heavy-handed, and in most cases, completely unnecessary.
  4. That's my setup, and I love it. I have the '60s strat from the Classic Player series...got it right before Fender's price increase last year.
  5. Since I already have a Strat, a Tele and an amp I'm happy with, if I had $2K I'd start looking for a used Gibson ES-335.
  6. Hidden amongst the '80s production values (even though it is a '90s album), there's some pretty great playing from Nels. William Carlos Williams - White Women (can't find an image for this one) I always expected to like this one, and finally got a copy. My expectations were wrong.
  7. A couple of my LP-geek coworkers and I used to laugh about that one all the time. I figured one of us ought to go ahead and buy it, so I took the plunge.
  8. Dungen, The Earl, Atlanta, August 19 Richard Lloyd, The Earl, Atlanta, June(?) Wilco, Tennessee Theater, Knoxville, April 18
  9. See Speed Racer's post above. Many people work numerous jobs, adding up to more than 40 hours per week. The government does not interfere or attempt to limit that.
  10. And good quality work is hard to do. If you want to work 80 hours for base level pay, be my guest.
  11. If a business has more than 40 hours worth of work per employee per week, perhaps they have too few employees.
  12. It sort of seems like ikol's point is that an employer should be able to make their employees work as many hours as the employer wishes, and that the government should not have a say in the matter.
  13. Show me where that puts limits on the hours a person can work.
  14. I've seen this one a bunch of times and always passed on it because I assumed it was a release by the Zappa tribute band Project-Object. If I knew what it REALLY was I would have bought it right away.
  15. I got one of these: It was a little more expensive than the Zoom machine I intended to get, but it should do exactly what I need it to do.

    Stereolab

Ok, so my copy of Mars Audiac arrived on Saturday, and over the long weekend I bought used copies of Emperor Tomato Ketchup and Cobra and Phases Group... Good stuff all around. So far my favorite is Cobra and Phases. It's too long, but it's high points are higher than the high points of the other cds. Of course, that's based on only one listen per cd, and is subject to change. Thanks for all the pointers.
  17. I tried, but was not able to locate an old interview with Ted Nugent in which he was asked that very question. His answer was that the feedback was desirable, and was an essential part of his sound. Not only did Nugent play a hollowbody guitar, but he used one of Fender's most notoriously loud amps, the Super Twin. Actually, he used several of them at a time. I used to play in a band with a guy who had one of these, and apparently, it was impossible for it to be anything but WAY TOO LOUD.
  18. As a Netflix subscriber, I forget that people still buy DVDs. Based on my viewing habits, it's pretty rare that a music DVD comes out that I think is worth buying, but that would be one.
