That one's hard for me to get into. It always strikes me as morose, especially after so many joyous sounding tunes (musically, if not always lyrically) on Village Green and Arthur, which I got into shortly before Muswell Hillbillies. Maybe someday it'll click for me. Actualy, maybe it will now. I haven't played it in over a year.

There's something about old timers in the music business. The Allmans had impeccable taste in music when they were starting out, but now, maybe not so much. I'm sure if you asked Ray Davies, or Brian Wilson, or Paul McCartney to name five current artists that they like you'd probaly wind up with a list of the 23 or 24 (edit, oops my math fucking sucks) shittiest bands going, with one or two decent ones thrown in just by chance.

I've seen Belew in concert a few times. The first was on Bowie's Sound and Vision tour. I remember him breaking strings on almost every song. Kind of a strange and somewhat disappointing show. A very bizarre choice of songs, considering it was supposed to be Bowie's last time performing his older material. Then I saw two nights of the King Crimson double trio on the Thrak tour. Yup, Talking Heads and Zappa, too. My favorite album of his is Lone Rhino. I guess I've only heard that one and Twang Bar King, though. Not a very thorough sampling of his solo work.

Bowie played a small club in Atlanta in the late '90s. I missed that one. I missed two chances to see Mike Watt with Nels (but I saw them together two other times, so that's not an enormous tragedy). I missed all but the last 30 seconds of Firehose's set opening for the Beastie Boys on the Check Your Head tour. He said he "got to see one", but he would not admit to opening any cases or touching any of them. He's a really good guitarist, and vintage/classic guitar enthusiast (not that those guitars were "vintage" at the time) so I find it hard to believe he didn't at least open some cases and take a peak.

My old boss used to be a stagehand for Bill Graham in the early/mid '70s. He once slept in a room full of the Who's equipment during the era in which Townshend had his numbered Les Pauls. How much self-control would it take to not open those cases? How could you sleep?

Pretty much any band would have overshadowed that Stones performance. They were pretty crappy that day. The Stones should have filmed their set before spending several days hanging out with Keith Moon. But yeah, The Who were ridiculous in that film. Just unreal.

I have and will continue to ditch people at shows if they try to talk to me the whole time the band is playing. I don't go see live music all that much anymore, and when I do go, the last thing I want to do is have a conversation or a running commentary spewed into my ear while the band is playing.
