  1. Wow, that sounds good. Might turn out to be the best SY solo album.
  2. Lee Ranaldo's new video, solo starts at 1:30: http://stereogum.com/988162/lee-ranaldo-angles-video/video/
  3. Hair changes as people age.
  4. I love Survivor. It's the only network show that I actively try to be home in time to see. I'm pulling for Cristina, but I know that's a longshot. I'll bet my annual salary that Colton will be back in a future season.
  5. One thing MMW did right, career-wise, which a lot of "jazz" bands either refuse to do, or don't realize they can do, is play with rock bands. They were on a Lollapalooza tour, and they played with and built strong relationships with a lot of jam bands. If there's ever been a loyal audience who will aggressively spread the word (and tapes) about bands, and will give opening bands a fair shot, it 's the jam band audience. That was incredibly smart of MMW. If they hadn't gone that route, they probably would have only risen to the level of, say, the Bad Plus.
  6. I'm still really enjoying the Hospitality record. Best pop tunes I've heard in a long time.
  7. Wow, that's great. Nels must have been so thrilled by that. Maybe a Derek Trucks/Nels collaboration will happen some day.
  8. I don't care about that. I just wish someone could do something about the infestation of kudzu stinkbugs we're experienceing. Never seen or heard of these terrible things until this year.
  9. I enjoyed watching the drummer in the old lineup when I saw them live or on TV. He didn't draw attention to himself, but he had some pretty inventive drum parts that were a lot of fun to watch.
  10. Watched this again. This lineup has zero personality. He probably should have just done a solo project and not called it The Shins.
  11. You'll be hearing this song for years to come in Red Lobsters throughout the land.
  12. First track on SNL was very Sprngsteen. In a generic way. Didn't se the second one. I suspect Wincing... has ruined this band for me.
  13. I used to see them once in a while when they were pretty new. I was impressed, but I haven't seen them since the early '90s. I've only owned Combustication and The Dropper. I like both of those. This is one of those bands I enjoy, but can't fully commit to, for some reason.
  14. I'm extremely tempted to trade in my Classic Player '60s Strat for a Fender Pawn Shop Series Mustang. http://www.makenmusic.com/product.cfm?prodID=2247&catID=1
  15. Adding a couple more to my schedule: Ringo and his All Starr Band - Fox Theater, Atlanta, July something. Eleanor Friedberger w/ Hospitality - The Basement, Atlanta, April 21
  16. How's that Mascis Jazzmaster? Squier has been cranking out some great looking stuff lately.
  17. I just can't get over how charmed I am by this band.
  18. We can always count on Downtown Music Gallery's weekly newsletter to hip us to new Nels releases. This one sounds like a real gem. I can vouch that Jenny Scheinman is an amazing violinist. JENNY SCHEINMAN MISCHIEF & MAYHEM With NELS CLINE/TODD SICKAFOOSE/JIM BLACK - Presents Mischief & Mayhem (JS 01; USA) "Mischief & Mayhem features Jenny Scheinman on violin & compositions, Nels Cline on guitars, Todd Sickafoose on bass and Jim Black on drums. You would wrong to think that this quartet was just an all-star band that Jenny Scheinman put together to sell some CDs or get gi
  19. That model never appealed to me the way other Ricenbackers do. I like the pointier ones, whcih goes against my taste in guitars, in general. Is this the first Ric Tweedy's used in Wilco?
  20. Calling Chelsea Clinton the White House dog.
  21. I'll say it again. I was not aware that it is free to attend Georgetown.
  22. That's not exactly true. Believe it or not, there are some dim bulbs out there who take Colbert at face value.
