  1. My two favorite albums from the last two years. I'd love to see them together.
  2. Reunion tour starts tonight! Anyone here going to any of these shows? Hopefully Watt will do a tour diary, and talk Ed and George into doing their own. It'd be interesting to hear their take on how thigns are going.
  3. 1. Everyone in a band NOT playing all the way through every song. 2. Being quiet. 3. Changing keys.
  4. Any version prior to Terry Adams naming his solo band NRBQ. I'm sure the new guys play great, but come on. yes. it's bland.
  5. I don't know if I'd go that far, but I know what you mean. There were other drummers around at the time who had a similarly musical approach to pop and rock tunes, who could have served those songs well. I don't say this to take anything away from Jody. He was, and still is, a great musician and drummer. It reminds me of people saying that Ringo isn't a good drummer. It's always meatheads who worship Neil Peart who say that. But imagine the Beatles with Neil Peart as their drummer. That'd be fucking terrible, and I say that as someone who likes Neil Peart.
  6. Wow, that sounds good. Might turn out to be the best SY solo album.
  7. Lee Ranaldo's new video, solo starts at 1:30: http://stereogum.com/988162/lee-ranaldo-angles-video/video/
  8. Hair changes as people age.
  9. I love Survivor. It's the only network show that I actively try to be home in time to see. I'm pulling for Cristina, but I know that's a longshot. I'll bet my annual salary that Colton will be back in a future season.
  10. One thing MMW did right, career-wise, which a lot of "jazz" bands either refuse to do, or don't realize they can do, is play with rock bands. They were on a Lollapalooza tour, and they played with and built strong relationships with a lot of jam bands. If there's ever been a loyal audience who will aggressively spread the word (and tapes) about bands, and will give opening bands a fair shot, it 's the jam band audience. That was incredibly smart of MMW. If they hadn't gone that route, they probably would have only risen to the level of, say, the Bad Plus.
  11. I'm still really enjoying the Hospitality record. Best pop tunes I've heard in a long time.
  12. Wow, that's great. Nels must have been so thrilled by that. Maybe a Derek Trucks/Nels collaboration will happen some day.
  13. I don't care about that. I just wish someone could do something about the infestation of kudzu stinkbugs we're experienceing. Never seen or heard of these terrible things until this year.
  14. I enjoyed watching the drummer in the old lineup when I saw them live or on TV. He didn't draw attention to himself, but he had some pretty inventive drum parts that were a lot of fun to watch.
  15. Watched this again. This lineup has zero personality. He probably should have just done a solo project and not called it The Shins.
  16. You'll be hearing this song for years to come in Red Lobsters throughout the land.
  17. First track on SNL was very Sprngsteen. In a generic way. Didn't se the second one. I suspect Wincing... has ruined this band for me.
  18. I used to see them once in a while when they were pretty new. I was impressed, but I haven't seen them since the early '90s. I've only owned Combustication and The Dropper. I like both of those. This is one of those bands I enjoy, but can't fully commit to, for some reason.
  19. I'm extremely tempted to trade in my Classic Player '60s Strat for a Fender Pawn Shop Series Mustang. http://www.makenmusic.com/product.cfm?prodID=2247&catID=1
  20. Adding a couple more to my schedule: Ringo and his All Starr Band - Fox Theater, Atlanta, July something. Eleanor Friedberger w/ Hospitality - The Basement, Atlanta, April 21
  21. How's that Mascis Jazzmaster? Squier has been cranking out some great looking stuff lately.
  22. I just can't get over how charmed I am by this band.
