  1. i missed it as well. just got the dvd today and the link for the DC show says 4/18-4/28...we missed it by 1 day!
  2. glad to read some nice things about this new Road Trip. just ordered it off dead.net along with Dick's Picks #8! its gonna be a wonderful weekend. btw, why are people charging so much for these Dick's Picks releases when the official site has pretty much every one of them for $21- $25? was at a used cd store a while back and they had one of the later Dick's Picks, 34 i believe, and they wanted $30 for it! there's also some Amazon.com sellers asking some outrageous prices for their copies.
  3. this stuff is pretty scary. a lot of people think the dinosaurs were wiped out by a similar epidemic. when tectonic plate shifting caused Asia and North America to connect, animals were able to migrate around the world with much more ease. they, inevitably, carried disease with them which creatures from other continents were not accustomed to. thanks to our little mosquito buddies, disease spread quite rapidly thus the dinos died. we're more advanced than the dinosaurs, obviously, but with the way viruses can acclimate to their surroundings, this threat is still very real. i seriously nee
  4. Creation or a Stain by Joseph Arthur is pretty crazy. here's a link to it if anyone wants to check it out, think its best not to post it on here: Creation or a Stain lyrics Joe's never performed this song live. after the first take in the studio, he started coughing up a lot of blood and thought that was a sign from God that he shouldn't play this song anymore. so the version you hear on Come to Where I'm From is the first and only take of Creation or a Stain. kinda cool, huh?
  5. i agree, i love his latest record. i've been listening to it at least every other day since its been "released." previously, i was listening to The Beloved Enemy on a regular basis. Genevra is such an amazing song...it brings me so close to tears every time i listen to it much like The Engines are Idle does off of his latest work. a friend and i were cruising around town the other day and i put on God's Coffee. this guy's really fickle with new music, however he loved this song!
  6. now that we've had a little time to digest the TTL leak, is everyone still feeling pretty much the same as they did upon their initial listen(s)? i'm really trying to get into it but the lyrics are rubbing me the wrong way. maybe i'm just being moody or too critical...i just can't get into the majority of the songs. when i go back and listen to his last 3 records, there's a sense of urgency to those songs that TTL lacks. like some of you mentioned, its a very solid album, a collection of lovely songs, its just not the Dylan i've fallen in love with over the past few years. i imagine this is
  7. you're right. the 11/10/73 Playin'> Uncle John's Band is one of the coolest things i've heard.
  8. ive been browsing around for all 3 volumes and it appears that the first volume can be purchased for around $20, however, volumes II and III are another story...
  9. i, too, was worried about Jay. its like he just disappeared one day out of the blue. what you're doing sounds really cool Bhickman. Jay's been really, really nice to us, sharing stories, time, not to mention some kick ass tunes, so its only natural that we should be there for him now.
  10. i'll gladly pay this to see him, but i can see how some people would be turned off by the price. the fact that its GA makes it seem more like a deal to me. it sure beats paying $150 to see the Dead from the nosebleed section. anyone know if he plans on debuting some songs off the new record during the summer tour?
  11. they shoulda skipped the Dead and kept Lauren Conrad out longer. only kidding! kind of... anyways, wondering when/ if Sunshine Daydream will pop up now?
  12. wanted to remind everyone that The Dead will be on Letterman soon. got the DVR set as i'm currently wrapped up in the Hartford '77 show. care to place bets on what they're gonna play? i'm thinkin Touch of Grey. they played Friend of the Devil on the View so doubt they'll do that one again.
  13. i'm torn b/w this whole ordeal. it just occurred to me that we, possibly, tend to romanticize the past more and more as the years pass. we hand down these wild stories from generation to generation for inspiration, to give them something hip to aspire to, pardon the pun, and if that's the case, its only natural to feel as though something is lacking from the current generation. sure, some generations did go through a lot, certain things played out in quick progression which, ultimately, had to lead to quick change. however i don't think its fair to knock one generation as they're all equal in
  14. checking out those Ark shows now. very cool. and those are some pretty crazy setlists. i've never heard anything like that Viola Lee Blues before from 4/21! you guys should def. compile a list of your top 10 fav shows. there's sooooo much out there for newcomers, like myself, to sift through and lists would really help.
  15. watched the first part of this last night! i have a copy of this show and its one of my favs. those View from the Vaults shows seem pretty interesting. i was always a bit hesitant of the band's later years but was pleasantly surprised by that July 4, 1989 show. there's so much to choose from but there ain't enough $...it ain't fair.
  16. "I picture you in the sun wondering what went wrong." - Joseph Arthur, In the Sun
  17. just bought my first GD DVD (Truckin' Up to Buffalo) and its sooo amazing! Borders had it for 50% off and i couldn't pass it up. i have a cheap little Walmart 5.1 setup and the sound is just spectacular. its really awesome seeing the camaraderie b/w the guys. after thousands of gigs, ol' Jerry still grins like its their first show. and that Cold Rain and Snow gives me chills...its beautiful. i know there are a handful of GD DVDs out there but was just wondering if you all could recommend which one i should pick up next. thinking about the Closing of the Winterland or maybe the GD Movie.
  18. wow, buncha older songs! i've yet to venture into their repertoire from this era except for a soundboard i have from '66 i believe. i'm a sucker for the organ driven jams from then.
  19. nice! can't wait to get my hands on these. think i'll go order the DVD now instead of waiting until the 28th.
  20. thanks for the info. i signed up however, my browser claims it needs plug-ins in order to play, yet it won't tell me which plug-ins are needed. maybe they won't allow them to be posted on archive.org since the band is selling downloads of their shows? i'm sure some people will find a way to get it "out there" tho, haha.
  21. Bird Song! have had a hankering to listen to that for the past day or so. where did you all hear this show? was it a one time stream or have/ will they archive it?
  22. my Winterland '73 box shipped early and arrived today! what a nice set! currently listening to the November 9, 1973 China Cat Sunflower which is heaven. the Europe '72 version is the gold standard for me but this Winterland version really blows that one out of the water. never ever thought i'd say that!
  23. i've always wanted to check out some of Lauderdale's stuff. he wrote a lot of songs for George Strait (yes, you can laugh) that are really, really good. not to mention, as of late, i've really been getting into some obscure-to-me Grateful Dead songs. just picked up their lyric book last night and my respect for Robert Hunter has grown 200% in the last 2 days.
  24. true. i mean, how do you write songs for Bob Dylan? that's like teaching the US government about politics. that's a bad analogy to use right now but you all know what i mean. i'm 50/50 on the whole lyrics ordeal. more than likely, i'm just thinking a little too much about this. after all, didn't Dylan team up with Jacques Levy to write the songs for Desire? and that's a wonderful record.
