i've seen some of his live vids on the YouTube and he does seem like a real fun musician to go and see. this version of "A Postcard to Nina" is awesome! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOqc4B1GaN4

can't wait to hear that duet even tho i'm not a big duet type of guy. also, that 'Bull Black Nova' song sounds like it has a lot of potential. i imagine it sounding like a hybrid YHF/ AGIB tune with some heavy Nel's guitar magic sprinkled on top. ughh...this waiting is killing me!

whoa, sounds pretty good. its torture reading that on an empty stomach though...

Top 3 most underwhelming bands/artists you've ever seen
HungryHippo replied to Mrs. Peel's topic in Someone Else's Song
as much as I hate to type this, I'd have to say it was a Doors of the 21st Century gig in London back in '05. I went with a group of friends and we were all totally hyped. I ended up meeting a girl there who was, for lack of better words, a groupie and she told me this sad story about how the band had invited them out for dinner and as they were eating, Ian Astbury walked in and flipped out because they had started eating before him. I still remember the look on their faces during the show. they looked so depressed, it was sad and a big bummer for me. not to mention, the show was short and the -
"rainwater harvesting" -- illegal?

so, if it doesn't rain for like a month, will these farmers, who own the rain, take God to court? -
the deluxe edition has 2 discs! man, this waiting sucks. i think that one song should be temporarily titled, "I Feel a Leak Comin' On."

i went to my first Wilco gig alone. what's weird was that the show sold out and i didn't have a ticket. i ended up buying one from a couple who had an extra, their friend dropped out at the last minute or something. so i ended up sitting with this guy and his girlfriend in a small 3 seated booth. it was still a great night!

same here. we just lost a long time fav. record shop a while back and the other downtown shop is struggling.

How about concerts you had tickets for but never saw?

Ryan Adams and the Cardinals in 2006 and Wilco in 2007. -
ive been getting into the Mould these past few months. it took a while for District Line to grow on me but i think that its a really solid record and i listen to it quite often. im now venturing into Workbook and im starting to fall head over heels for it. can't wait to check out this new one whenever it comes out. anyone hear that song he did on the 6ths' Hyacinths and Thistles called, 'He Didn't?' it was penned by Stephin Merritt, of the Magnetic Fields, and is very enjoyable.

would love to read this article. at the Myrtle Beach '05 show, this guy and girl on the front row were, obviously, trying to make a baby. would be cool for the kid to grow up and tell people that he was conceived during 'New Madrid.'

YHF. this warm weather reminds me of the summer of '02 when i first listened to YHF. i get sentimental and teary eye'd this time of year.

i read like 1/10 of 'Swann's Way' if that counts! i'd def. like to read more and am also interested to see if anyone has been able to read the entire set and if so, what they have to say about it.

oh, i forgot about 'The Horn!' i believe that story is about one of the minor characters from 'Go,' could be wrong tho. think i'll mosey on over to Amazon and pick that up along with 'Ulysses' which seems like its a pretty hit/ miss type of book. if push comes to shove, i can carry it around, along with Proust's 'Things of Remembrance Past,' and attempt to impress the ladies.

yea, that pic is funny. too bad they're not all looking slightly to the left.

what, you guys didn't receive the new reissues yet? i've already worn out my AM and Summerteeth records. got a new shipment on the way!

so, is this Blood on the Tracks Legacy set just a rumour? judging by that link, they seem to be voting for what they want Legacy to release. im confused...

the songs that inspire(d) your favorite artist(s)
HungryHippo replied to HungryHippo's topic in Someone Else's Song
The Doors were heavily influenced by both the blues and jazz. they lifted the solo of their song 'Universal Mind' from John Coltrane's 'Afro Blue.' here's some links if anyone wants to check it out: The Doors- Universal Mind John Coltrane Quartet- Afro Blue -
i would read the comic before seeing the movie. i hear the movie has a different ending or something. Watchmen was an excellent read but i think it gets a little over-hyped at times. honestly, i'm enjoying the 52 storyline a centimeter more than i did Watchmen.

while listening to this CD from Uncut magazine called 'Drifter's Escape: The Music That Inspired Bob Dylan's 'John Wesley Harding' and 'Nashville Skyline,' I had the idea to start a thread where people can post lists of the songs that inspired their favorite musicians. a lot of us seem to dig the same music so this may be a good way to discover some unknown songs/ artists while at the same time gaining new insight into our favorite musicians. I'll start by adding the track list to that Uncut Dylan disc... Drifter's Escape: The Music That Inspired Bob Dylan's 'John Wesley Harding' and 'Nashvi

wow, this is really sad. i use to hear him a lot as a kid as well. some of my earliest memories are of his voice, the whole "and now you know the rest of the story" line. my mom would pick me up from elementary school and we'd listen to him on the ride home. that was back in the early 90's, haven't heard much from him since. its crazy how a person like Paul becomes a part of our lives. he almost feels like an uncle that you never got to see but who would always call or something.

i was also wondering how they cleaned them up so well. there's only so much one can do to help a recording sound better. i think a lot of it may be how the original acetates were stored. prolly in a temp. controlled room/ vault and im sure they were very rarely taken out to be played. someone mentioned in the liner notes how these recordings sound better than the original MGM recordings that we all know and love, lol. i def. need to check out that Stoneman release you mentioned. i've also been meaning to check out that Folk Anthology set that was released years ago. that seems like a good w
