I know, I know...most of you hate the Doors but I know a couple of you dig them. I think I started a thread about them a while back but I can't find it. anyways, anyone check out this new live record? while its interesting based on the fact that its an early recording and the sound quality is pretty good, considering it was recorded on 4-track soundboard, there's a very shady story behind its release. read this: Live at the Matrix 1967- Wikipedia also, here's a review from an Amazon user which explains things a bit better than the Wiki entry- (Customer Review):

I concur. I bought it on a whim, after falling madly in love with the Sun Giant EP, and it did nothing for me. oh well, can't win 'em all.

wow, he seemed like a really cool guy! you're lucky to be related to him. that was a very interesting read, btw.

wow, this is really cool! my great-great grandfather fought for the Confederacy. he was captured towards the end of the war, though. once the war was over, he was released and drove a horse-drawn carriage all over NC for the rest of his life. I guess this was their "taxi" back then. his name was James W. Young. here's his pic:

this is me in Dublin. I was hungover, hence the big bottle of water.

Conor Oberst- S/T 8. The Tallest Man on Earth- Shallow Grave 7. Fleet Foxes- Sun Giant EP 6. Alkaline Trio- Agony and Irony 5. Jay Bennett- Whatever Happened, I Apologize 4. Joseph Arthur and the Lonely Astronauts- Temporary People 3. Jakob Dylan- Seeing Things 2. Joseph Arthur- his 4 EPs (Pitchfork rated them all together, lol) 1. Ryan Adams and the Cardinals- Cardinology

haha, sorry. this one: Crisis on Infinite Earths has been an amazing read! if you haven't read it yet, you def. should. I've got 1 issue left to read then its off to Infinite Crisis. it may help explain some of what has happened in all of the other Crisis stories.

any Crisis fans here? I'm finally getting around to reading the series but have been confronted with a problem. somehow, I misplaced, or prolly threw out, that Legends of the DCU special Crisis issue I owned, now I'm in dire need of finding out what happened in it! I've searched online and have only found a character breakdown of the issue. any help would be appreciated.

The Decemberists sing about Valerie Plame
HungryHippo replied to LouieB's topic in Someone Else's Song
I've never heard a Decemberists song in my life. -
I guess you have to look at what kind of mind state these artists are in when they write and record these records. both Ryan Adams and Jeff Tweedy seem to have struggled in the past with substance abuse, depression, etc, and granted, these maladies allow for some impressive artistic endeavors, its hell in pretty much every other aspect of one's life. Adams and Tweedy both seem to be in a better place now than they were in the past and, to me, its understandable that they'd want to avoid the past as much as possible. they're forging ahead with new songs and continuing their quests for happiness

wow, that was nice! -
anyone know of a good X-Men graphic novel for a X-Men comic book beginner? I would like to start reading something besides Superman or Batman but don't wanna pick-up a book that is taking place between another book that picks up where a previous story left off, ya know? thanks!
-
wow, sounds great! thanks for explaining this to me. now I need to track down all of these back issues. are the one shots included in the 2 TPB that have recently been released, or should I track them down separately?
-
thanks, but I think I'm more confused, lol. *** SPOILER for those who haven't read Kingdom Come*** if this is supposed to be the sequel, then why are the heroes still in their costumes? I thought they took a vow to live side by side with humans as equals in the original Kingdom Come? it looks like there are going to be a few one-shot issues coming out next year, including this one dedicated to Superman with a bitchin' cover Ross designed ages ago that was never used: can't wait to get caught up on this series...
-
anyone check out that new Kingdom Come spin off? I saw issues 1 and 2 at the book store but didn't have time to check them out. does it pick-up where the original KC left off? I know Alex Ross was opposed to the first sequel, The Kingdom, so would be interesting to find out what this new one is about.

wow, this release came out of left field. I was looking forward to 'KATPA' after listening to that cigarette machine song. anything by Bennett that is stripped-down and more acoustic based is awesome. not that is other work is bad, I just prefer that sense of intimacy his more basic tunes evoke. like 'The Beloved Enemy,' that's one of my fav. records of all time. can't wait to hear this!

I've really been into "Lions of Broadway." at times, I miss the old "let's get trashed and break the ladies hearts" Ryan. this song reminds me of him. "When the Wild Wind Blows" woulda helped out Easy Tiger a whole lot, had it been included. not to say its a bad record, think you all know what I mean. oh well. at least we finally get to hear these! -
ditto. its a good record, just can't listen to it all the way through due to the whole Manson thing as well.
