  1. Drunk Darth Vader's Jedi assault A man posing as Darth Vader attacked a Star Wars fan, who had founded a Jedi Church, a court has heard. Arwel Wynne Hughes, 27, from Holyhead, Anglesey, admitted assaulting Barney Jones and cousin Michael with a metal crutch. They suffered minor injuries. Hughes, who was drunk and dressed in a black bin bag, shouted "Darth Vader!" Earlier, when Hughes failed to arrive on time, District Judge Andrew Shaw issued an arrest warrant, adding: "I hope the force will soon be with him." In the event, Hughes turned up and the case at Holyhead magistrates court
  2. Seinfeld is stupid. So is Curb Your Enthusiasm.
  3. I had too much to drink a few weekends ago. Didn't vom, but felt like crap for 48 hours. It's kinda not worth it anymore. If I had a kid to set an example for, I would try to set that example.
  4. Ubuntu. I have been futzing with Open Office stuff and have been impressed.
  5. 38 miles round trip, but I only make it four times a week. Some more miles are added in when I have to go cover a meeting or take a picture.
  6. I paid $3.67 per for some 89 octane last night. I'm thinking about moving my command center to the Poughkeepsie office to save some money.
  7. Look, we all love the handcrafted, microbrewed going-on-$10-a-six-pack stuff, but there's a recession on, dammit, and we have to cut back sometimes. I am now currently enjoying a Genny Cream Ale. I like that, and Icehouse, when the flow is low. Coors banquet is not bad either.
  8. Yeah, that reminds me. Beck is a big-ass moron! (Actually, he is a clever synthesist, but not a genius by any means.)
  9. I agree with most of that, but I think of AC/DC as metal, by association if nothing else. So to focus my definition a bit, I would say metal includes any band considered metal by the kids who hung out in the "smoking lounge" at F.D. Roosevelt High School, Hyde Park, N.Y., from 1981-85. That includes AC/DC and Van Halen, which are admittedly borderline cases.
  10. 1. Maybe, depending on the pitcher. Good hitting pitchers I would consider batting 8th, but no others. 2. "Bullpen by committee" is still seen from time to time, but today's pitchers get insecure or something when they don't have a "defined" role.
  11. He signed a 1.2 mil one-year deal in January. When he gets to be a free agent, we'll see what he gets.
  12. Dude! I know you're from Canada and all, but don't you know that despite being one of the top franchises of the last 20 years or so, there are no Devils fans?
  13. He is. You should see the look he gets on his face sometimes. I was in favor of making him a starter, but got overruled.
  14. It should have started in spring training - I would keep him all this year in the pen, and think of him for the rotation in 2009. It would be kind of cool if they made him into a Gossage-esque two-or-more-inning closer.
  15. I am OK with it, but would prefer Van Gundy the Bald.
  16. Complicating that a bit is the number of pitches a guy has. If he has only one or two, it's gonna be rough for him facing guys more than once a game.
  17. He was, and did not really set the world on fire as a starter.
  18. I have heard Mastodon is good. I like Amon Amarth, but that's just about it as far as me and current metal go.
