A Thread for Musical Blasphemy you Truly Believe
jc4prez replied to hardwood floor's topic in Someone Else's Song
Hey, it was a joke. The reason I laughed is because most rock musicians aren't the greatest of writers (lyrically), its much easier to make a lyric of effective with help from music thats pulling your heart strings. -

hahhahahahahahahahahahahaha So do you only read books with pictures? -
Can't say i'm to surprised or upset. I used belong to a message board called The Dylan Pool where his name would come up censored.

Of course lots of singers have sung falsetto prior to prince, its the grooves with the vocals that are giving me that vibe, and sex lyrics (but nothing new there for MMJ). As for not listening to music for the lyrics. If these you can't write why open your mouth? I can think of tons of emotional vocals were they were spouting drivel but in the long term it devalues the artistic value. The Grateful Dead are a great example of a band that couldn't write great lyrics but had the knack for music, so what did they do? They found a poet. No shame in that and overall it made the music t

mickey keeps tossing the acid and dope jokes. Love the "don't lick the envelopes" joke.

You should apply for that job, ha. Its a shame its not going the terripian station route, but I guess that might have wound up to disney land like. Now if only they'd let go of that vault.

bob wire, alright, great to see all this great stuff being given to a college that can't even pronounce the guys name.

In most cases I'd say I have a similar experience, although I was really impressed by the new Radiohead album. And to that I say why not?

Jim is incredibly silly, I'm not denying that. I just feel that the silliness overweighs the seriousness of this record. You could say I being prematurely harsh on this record, everyones opinions good or bad are premature on this record, nobody even has a good copy yet (unless there was another leak). Thats why I said i'm going to reserve my final judgements for another week or so. I think the record is going to do really well for them. i won't be surprised if it is well received. I've just stated that its not blowing me away or demanding it be listened to like their earlier records

I mean at least that flows, and in my opinion the music and melody are good. Those lyrics are not nearly as clunky as some of the stuff on evil urges and its just as silly as "you really brought out the naked part".

I think what it comes down to is that if you don't like it don't buy it. If people stop paying their prices they have to lower them, especially since there is no real logistical reason the prices and amount of extra fees keep increasing. Pressure needs to be put on artists to find other outlets or promoters. I hate the Metro here in Chicago but i'll definitely be more interested in seeing shows there now since they have cuts ties with the bastard. For those of you in Minneapolis do places like first ave. ever sell through ticketmaster or it always privately sold?

hmmmm I don't see how Into The Woods sucks I guess, is it the sound effects at the beginning? Other then the sfx there isn't really anything more silly then "Iw was wanting some ice cream". Where as Highly Suspious sounds like Prince and Mettilica.

What is it about Obama that makes you people think he isn't on the same trip as Bush? Neither he or Clinton have addressed are out of control military budget. My belief being that nothing is going to change. Frankly I think its the second main reason that neither candidate will address single payer health care, you can't topple the middle east and give your own citizens health care at the same time. I know you guys don't believe McCain has a chance but I'm willing to bet that McCain wins if he is put up against Hillary and maybe even Obama (only because his use of the word change m

why all the hate for Into The Woods? I don't see how these tracks are remotely a like.

Right on the money. Since this "interweb" business it seems like records come out, people review them after two or three listens, then they digest another like its a carton of milk. Every time I listen to Yankee I find something new about it I like (and i've listened to the album a few hundred times). Since the access to new music has become so much easier it seems much more disposable.

I agree with in that the direction is not unexpected. The sound isn't unexpected. Its just really poorly done. I've never found James to be the greatest of lyricists but some of this is just pitiful, if anything its helped my self confidence, so often do i throw stuff out thinking its garbage, this album feels like james has never used an eraser. I hear the influences of a.m. radio, of the 80's music, of prince, of soul music, etc. its just not incorporated well. I will say I do like Evil Urges, and I'm Amazed, I was also digging the librarian but by the end he lost me. I'm

Personally loved Joan with the dead and in phils group. For one she has more range then anyone who has sung in or with the band, secondly she frees up the need for the lead guitarist in the band to also be a vocalist. Which is why i think they had jimmy, warren and bob on guitars for the next tour.

Yeah, there was pod (gordon and anastsio) and that one off rhythm devils tour. From what i understand he feels there is no reason to leave hawaii at this point. I also herd he was really disappointed in the reunion shows, saying that everyone didn't bring a full deck of cards to the shows. Speaking of the Rhythm Devils though, the same band from that tour minus gordon and bill (george porter will be on bass) are playing a street festival for free here in chicago on july 5, so i imagine there will be more more shows. The music from that tour was really good but the new songs and Jen Dur

[quote name='Analogman' dat They have or had a show scheduled in new york and they just played two in chicago over the weekend. As I said I saw the free one. Billy was in fine forum, but the guitarist was pretty weak as were most of his songs, each of the dead tunes were played a little to fast. They only did 5 number in an hour twenty min set, so as you can guess all of the numbers were jammed out quite a bit. Once the songs left their original structure the band took off. The one thing this really proved is how you can't play these tunes with one guitarist.

FUCK NUGGET! That bastard better give time before tickets hit the outlets.
-
Most of it ranges from strange to silly. I guess we'll have to wait till the next one.
-
any guesses on what the press conference is over? I saw Bill with Oteil and the guitarist from Max Creek yesterday at the green apple music fest. The music was a bit sloppy (mostly the guitarist fault) but Billy sounded great.

Talk about opposite ends of the spectrum. I can't believe how bad this record is. Was really looking forward to it and wasn't able to get past track 7, the lyrics are uninspired, the music ranges from boring to nothing new. Def. my least favorite so far, but who knows maybe all the good songs come next? Evil urges is the only track i connected with and even that was just mediocre.

Your right, but if I watched a video of either of them brining their own crystal for a traveling or had any number of those "toys" of his I'd probably joke about.

MIGHT ECK GOD MUST MUST PICK IT UP! One of the best records ever. shoot me a pm
