  1. Well, the RNC has more money than the DNC. They can spend it on whichever races they want. Also, the grassroots nature of Obama's fundraising (record number of individual donors) = people voting with their pocketbooks. I'd be fine with 100% publicly financed elections.
  2. What does "never sent out" mean? Never sent to those who requested them or never returned by the voters?
  3. An interesting twist: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081103/ap_on_...Zva3gkAQyOs0NUE Sounds like she's not quite with it.
  4. Eh, there are plenty of states where they are very close.
  5. Aw man. Meeting him would be like one stop shopping for meeting all kinds of people.
  6. Don't forget their (former) division-mate, Mark Buerhle. He will be 30 in March and has 122 wins. If he stays in shape he might be able to throw soft crap forever, like Maddux and Moyer.

  9. Well, they played in the same division for many years (pitching to basically the same batters) and Santana is better in almost every statistical category.
  10. There is a Sun Times reporter/radio host who is claiming that a trusted source tells him that Mike Singletary dropped his pants (not underwear) during his halftime speech to emphasize what the other team was doing to them (I'm cleaning this up a bit) and proceeded to give out halftime adjustments, etc. with his pants around his ankles. I haven't seen this reported anywhere else, so take it for what it's worth. I thought it was funny at least.
  11. Not to mention the editorial board of the magazine itself: http://www.economist.com/blogs/democracyin...st_endorses.cfm
  12. Clinton did, as did Gerald Ford, and Reagan and (one assumes) every president in between. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earned_Income_Tax_Credit The child tax credit also works that way for low income families. Edit: Let me repeat...Ronnie freakin' Reagan! I'm having a grabber, here.

  14. I'd say that everyone would agree that great teams usually need one or two great relief guys--probably more. '05 White Sox, for instance, also had Politte and Cotts (who bath had tremendous years). The closer argument is really about whether you need to have your best reliever in that role--or if he could be more of a freelancer.
  15. Hasn't In the Aeroplane sold something like 200,000 copies over a slow burn? Or am I drastically exaggerating that number? If true, that's nothing to sneeze at.
  16. Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this: The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing. The fifth would pay $1. The sixth would pay $3. The seventh would pay $7. The eighth would pay $12. The ninth would pay $18. The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59. So, that's what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. 'Since you are all such go
