Jon Stewart destroys Mad Money's Jim Cramer

Yup. It's a fine line and thus far I think that show has walked it pretty brilliantly. Edit: bjorn -

Of course he knows it runs much deeper. You use disingenuous as if it is a bad thing. I'm saying that's precisely what this show is going for. Not to be too esoteric here (), but this archetype is non local, invisible, beyond definition. Him saying it's 'just comedy', and wanting to 'go back to making fart jokes' is the cloak he pulls over the show to keep it 'safe'. The show is intentionally a Whack A Mole game. Copping to 'serious' political discourse would undermine it's fluidity. -

But why would he want to? It is ambiguity (the court jester's outfit, the Joker's make up) that allows satirists to get away with saying the things they do. -

The Fool is one of the most powerful and misunderstood archetypes in modern culture. I would say the time is ripe for a reintroduction. -

Haven't seen this yet, but will watch the rerun tonight. Considering the climate of this country, is it any surprise that we would find a scapegoat for our collective frustration? The archetypal parallels are textbook. The role of the jester was an important one in palaces of kings and queens. The jester mocks those in power and their customs and traditions. The result is that the reasoning behind these customs and traditions are examined, and reasons which are out-of-date or never made sense in the first place can be replaced. Further, the role of the Trickster is to be morally ambiguou -
Happy birthday to one of my favorite VCers, online and in real life. I hope you have a tremendous year Maggie.

Who are the 5 best live bands you've ever seen?
M. (hristine replied to hardwood floor's topic in Someone Else's Song
I saw him in Houston in December of 1978 at the Summit. (Had to check dates to be sure. I saw a whole pile of amazing bands over a 5 year stretch.) Never was one for stats, but Christ they must have done that over the top, three+ hour show practically every night for months. Edit: Wow. -

Maudie, thanks so much for posting this. One of the benefits of traveling to see this band has been experiencing contemporary music in buildings crafted long ago. In many ways the venues are as much characters in my story as are the road, my friends and the band. Can't wait to see this, though I know it will make me hanker even more...

Actually when I see stuff like this, and especially that Crispin Glover piece I always think of Andy Kaufman. Performance art comedy is not for everyone, but man I dig it. I love this one.

Joaquin is a good actor, but Dave not so much. Dunno. I think he was stoned out of his gourd.

I just made it up as I am wont to do when lacking the perfect word.

And taxpayers also subsidize sports stadiums populated by pharmaborg athletes. It's a brave new world.
